I decided to change my post. If it is a smaller storeand you have been in retail, then maybe give Kroger a try. But working at Kroger is not for everyone.

I think with all the recent events(covid, prices, etc) and current atmosphere in stores, the end plan is to go robotic asap.
I had a dream where the stores were turned into warehouses and used robots to fill pickup orders. At the end of the dream, a drunk ex pickup clerk was wandering around the vestibule banging on doors asking, "Where's my check."
But, like the robotic floor machines, that will flop until better idiot proof tech is created.

You seem like one of those old grouchy burnt out types who can't stand change, fun, or youth. Been stuck on the same job and in the same ruts for so many years it's not only all you know, but all you think is worth knowing.
I agree with some of what you said about the current work culture we're in. But these things are the reality. Your tight-fisted judementalisms aren't going to change or help any of these wrongs.
I only hope for anyone stuck training or working with you that your retiremnt will be soon ----and mandatory. Cuz I've seen that before too: grumpy, pissy and intollerant, yet you're not willingly going away. Ever. Sooner or later some young buck manager you think is a whiny, worthless baby is going to be sent to walk you out.

Another old timer here. Change for the sake of change is not always good. Have you ever thought that maybe after years of experience we know what works and what doesn't? I can't tell you how many programs I've seen come and go in my 35 years at Kroger. We're a grocery store. The only thing we need to do is put the product on the shelves and sell it. Anything else just complicates things.
lol. I actually love my job and am thankful to have a job with kroger. I have only called in 5 times in the last 15 years. Changing the baler is my most favorite job at kroger. I am paid well for what I do. My bills get paid and the only debt I have is a mortgage. I am content.
1 out of every 8 new hires that walk in might turn out to be decent. After 5 years, they get burnt out and pissy and want to renegotiate the payrate as an individual. I keep telling him that the pay is what the market will bear. The smart ones find better jobs.
I have a coworker with a month in and he is already trying to figure out how to game the attendance system. He was texting me while I was on vacation about write-ups. I finally told him to avoid termination, just don't call in.
As for change, I have used the Zebra 99% of the time since it rolled out a week before Thanksgiving at my store about 2 years ago. It isn't perfect but is useable.
I have many talents outside of kroger that are self taught.

It depends. Like any job you have your pleasantries and crap duties you have to do. Same with co-workers, you have your cool ones, and lazy ones that won't do their share and pitch a fit if you won't do their share in addition to yours..
If you're a teen and you need spending money, then yeah. You won't make much but at least you'll have your own income.
If you're willing to work, then it's not that bad.
If you are a child and can walk here, I wholeheartedly recommend working here. You will learn the most valuable lesson about mankind and will develop incredibly strong feelings about obtaining an actual future.
If you are an adult, no.
Walmart will help you get government benefits. McDonald's pays enough that you might not qualify.
Kroger won't and doesn't. Kroger is only for children, mental children, and the teens in management.
Years. Feeling foolish and ashamed. Should have known better. Company stinks. Unethical like none other, testing what it can get away with at all times, violent, secretive, like someone mentally ill. No Stay away.
