To employees: what are some “unofficial/unwritten perks” you extend to your fellow coworkers?

So these are things that are those unwritten perks we extend to our coworkers, or that are extended to us.

Whenever I work at SCOs and I see an employee in line, Ill ask are you on break?   If its their break or before their clock-in, I invite them up to the admin checkout.  No way is a fellow employee going to be wasting precious seconds waiting in line.   I even tell them I WANT you to pester me to get checked out if youre on break.  and if customers complain, Ill respond with: they work here. If you customers want to skip in line, youre free to apply for the job.  Once you get two weeks under your belt THEN well see about jumping you to the front.

Same with any expired sales.  Employees get them with a humorous comment of youre lucky you work here.

My ICC Clerk will sometimes set aside new products for employees to nab before the product hits the floors for sale. During Covid times, when customers decided to hoard TP and disinfectant, our ICC clerk set aside some for co-workers first. Then the rest got sold to customers.

Bunch of scammers. This is why customers treat you like ****. Absolutely justified.

I let other employees pick out their free donut before I put them in the case where people put their fingers all over them.

The store that I work at, almost all fellow co-workers extend the unwritten perks of:

1) No charge for extra ingredient in their starbucks order (carmel, cookie chunks, extra shot of caffeine, extra cream) when their order was being fulfill correctly.

2) Not reporting employee doing theft or turning the blind eye (cosmetics, microwave, blankets, rice pot, crock pot)

Another lovely perk is we will have AT LEAST one interesting story to tell the family about customers.

If its an hour til close, and youre running SCO, you can look at your phone. Just dont make it TOO obvious.  And if a customer needs help, stop what youre doing and help them.   Assuming its not busy of course.

same thing for the first 30 min of opening store, just keep an eye out at SCOs for huge orders.

Its absolutely fabulous that you do that! One of SCOs does the exact same thing! If you want that, come work for Kroger! We need more people!

Plus if an employee has trouble with e-coupons, Ill give them the e-coupon price, no arguement needed.  Granted I DO want to figure out why the e-coupons arent working but hey, you work here enough for me to recognize you, Ill do what I can to make this hell a little more bearable.

I feel like some of my reddit statements on r/kroger initiated someone posting this and not surprised. A lot of your post is click bait for sh--it heads.

My favorites are:

Every break room has a free table that most employees know where staff stick shrinked items such as past expiration dates, oops I dropped it, let's give these items to staff. I love this table. I admit take one means you just take one not the whole package. yes I take the whole package. Freeze it and you have free junk food. Kroger doesn't bag check (like other companies) so just stick it in your xl sized lunch box and you got it. Only do this with the break room free product. If you start to thieve legit sellable product yes you'll get caught.

Union allows you to call out once a month be management like it or not. If you have good attendance you can do this. Just don't gloat on social media what you do.

Abuse the 7 min lenience management can't do sh--it abt it. This means 7*5=35 min of work a week you don't have to do. Yes management occasionally reminds or verbally harasses staff but well just go to the union and they legally have to back off.

2 no call no shows first time offence is generally just a one time suspension. I was shocked to find out that most staff do this at least once. I mean why?

Like one customer who was SO impatient that they stole $120 of meat like an idiot.   Or the person who leaves the SCO without pressing pay now and another customer scans their items and charges it to the first persons card.

or even how two of the motorized carts are unusable because now they cant go in reverse.
