In the 60s we used to call them "slugs"-people would try to put it into public jukeboxes instead of the real change. Customer claimed it wasn't him but he was right next door to my fuel house. It was a beat up piece of metal.

I can understand, but not necessarily approve, of using a slug over 50 years ago. Back then a nickel actually bought something. You could get a candy bar for a nickel. When schools had bake sales, cookies were usually a nickel a piece. It might have even been a nickel for two at one point. I just remember cookies were five cents, brownies and other bars were ten cents, and cupcakes were fifteen cents. Today you can't even buy a candy bar for a dollar. A person today must be pretty darn cheap if they need to try to pass a slug for a little old nickel. Either that or they're just being a jerk.

My uncle told me one time that if you placed a nickle on a train track and the train ran over it, it would then be a slug. (I don't see how though) because it would be smooth and the presidents face would be gone. I don't know if he was bs'ing me or not. I would think the nickle would be flung off somewhere.

Also he use to put a string on a quarter, stick it in a soda machine and then when he got his soda he'd pull the string and get his quarter back. Now I think there's something inside that prevents you from doing that by cutting the string off or not let you put it into the slot

That was in a cartoon: "The Mouse That Jack Built".  It may be in others too.  That's just the one that popped into my head.

I was visiting Rodney the other day, so I told him about this.

His face turned beet red and he punched out a glass case.

He pulled out the very baseball bat Babe Ruth used to swing his final home run.

Rodney was furious.

He was screaming incoherently and smashing everything in his office just like Eric Andre.

I ran.

I'm afraid to have lunch with him this week.

Happy New Year.
