Need to make salary

I work as a courtesy clerk and yesterday was asked by management if I wanted to go home an hour early. I asked why and they said they said because they are sending people home yo "make salary." Wth is that supposed to even mean?

Does that mean so they can get their bonus?

What do we get out of it?

Why should I have to leave early if it's not going to benefit me at all?

I did leave early, but in the future I'm not sure I will unless it benefits me as well.

Most retail stores have a sales GOAL for each day, how many dollars they want to reach, and its usually based on a figure that is compared to last year. I have never heard anyone call it SALARY. It's usually SALES-LY (sales for last year) maybe it looks like salary, bwahahaha.. in the screen they are looking at.

Either way, some states have a rule like - if they schedule you for a 4 hour shift and you show up, and they dont need you - they may have to pay you for at least 2.. even if they do send you home after 30 minutes.  Might want to check your state laws.  Some states have that rule, others don't.  But yes sending associates home, reduces how much the store is showing they spent on LABOR hours, which helps balance out if their sales dollars are lower.  And yeah depending on how high of a manager they are, they do get bonus checks on their salary if the store sales figures are amazing..

OP here. That's fine by me. Guess they'll have to clean their own messes, do carry outs, get carts etc. Im just doing this to save .  I know it's not the best job, but who can say no to cash. I work hard and do not want to ask my parents to buy me things that I can buy myself.

I just turned 16, but if that's the way they want it fine. (Just don't get mad when I accept tips or find money and keep it) they been doing this alot and I'm tempted to hang around after work and see how they handle messes, carryout etc when they call for me and I don't respond because they sent me home early.

It means that it's bad trolling because you are replying to yourself.

Good trolling shuts down the conversation entirely.
