Saw a memo on my FES desk that said cashiers will have to stand in *front* of their check station, direct customers to the nearest register available and greet every customer that approaches them. The BS is starting to get off the wall-totally ridiculous. Is this going on in your Local area? Did you get a memo like this in your store?
This has been practice at my store in local 400 for a few years now but it is due to the former head store manager seeing it at home depot or lowes and thinking we should do it too.We also used to have a position called floor supervisor who would basically do the same thing but while wearing a vest and direct customers while also making sure people got their breaks but that position doesn't really exist anymore. That manager has been gone a few years but the practice has stayed unfortunately..I never see other krogers around here doing it.We used to always work putbacks or other front-end tasks while it was slow but now we have to let them pile up until evening when they do putbacks before the store closes.Meanwhile we'll be standing at the end of the register for 5-10 minutes sometimes staring off into space between customers on weekdays(slower store)seems like such a waste of time but if that's what they want to pay us to do then that's their wasted money not mine.
New uniforms company wide with zero accommodations for religion, allergies or different cultures. Total bs I'll revolt the uniform if you make my aff freeze off in our cooler back room in 32-38 degrees with an f'n tshirt for warmth. I checked our local laws and this no jacket no uniform alternatives period is actually a health labor law violation. I see a huge lawsuit coming out of this if they don't have a few more options.
I hate uniforms. While I agree they make everyone on equal ground, your coworkers will not sufficiently wash them. Just like the last time we had to wear them. They'll wear them until they are shreds and falling off. Then the company will be stingy at replacing them so it'll be hard to get new shirts.
