Who here is very confused about the new employee attendance points system being rolled out in several states?
Apparently, there is a lot of pushback on it, especially regarding medical emergencies and illnesses. Many of our people are showing up for work with all kinds of illnesses out of fear of losing their jobs! I guess it doesnt matter if the whole store is coughing and some of our prized customers get sick, as well! Weve got a front end supervisor who complained about strep throat for a couple weeks. Still, she showed up for work. Half of the front end have been catching those seasonal illnesses and calling out over the last couple of weeks. I myself have had several dental procedures recently which required emergency attention and now, Im dealing with a strain of the flu that the doctor tells me that my regular flu shot wouldnt have helped! And I probably caught it at the store I work at due to everyone else bringing it in with them! And God forbid we ever have a problem like COVID again!
I was out for five weeks with that one back in 2020! And come to find out, I wasnt the only one! We even had people die!
Oh, and I have EVERY doctors note and copies of them all, but who knows if that even matters, according to what Im hearing!
I will say that I have a very stern doctor telling me that under NO circumstances am I to return to work until my symptoms start subsiding because Im a risk for others!
I get why this is being implemented, because of chronic absenteeism, but the downside is that this is a disaster waiting to happen when the winter comes, as illnesses will be spreading all over the stores!
And I hear grievances are being filed left and right!
You tell me how ANY of this makes sense!
And if they really wanted to fix the problems, why couldnt they compromise with those having legitimate issues?
Apparently, Walmart tried implementing this back in 2016. Groups like A Better Balance have said that it penalizes employees for legitimate call-offs due to illnesses, medical emergencies, weather-related events, family care and disability-related absences. In return, Walmart has been deluged with wrongful termination lawsuits and there is inconsistent managerial enforcement. And now, I hear that the unions are fighting back and multiple grievances have been filed with Kroger!
In all honesty, is THIS what Kroger wants? And how, pray tell, are they gonna make up for lost employees when many departments are running skeleton crews as it is??? Especially when we dont even do hiring events anymore and the kids off the street cant even last two weeks under regular circumstances???
I could say more, but I think Ill leave it up to the rest of you to share your thoughts on the matter. What have been your experiences so far?
