Hey, I work night stock at this f****ed up company and am really getting pissed. About every 2-6 weeks, my manager talks to us and says he's going to write us up or fire us if we don't start making case count, which is 55 cases/hr. How the hell are you supposed to do that?
That's a case every 1.09 minutes
So your supposed to be able to:
1. open a box 2. walk to, and find where it's supposed to go 3. put everything that's in the box, on the shelf, while keeping it neat 4. walk back to the cart or pallet
in little more than a minute? Not to mention, bailing your empty boxes after your done with a cart or pallet.
I can't believe that case quota is this high. If this is the actual quota then our union (ufcw) isn't worth a s***. My guess, is the union is run by the company itself.
I can see how you could make quota if your in isle pop or dog food, where 1 thing is a case, or there are only a few things in a case, but i'm always in canned food.
Another thing is they only give us 15 minutes to clean up and "face" and isle after we're done, and if we take longer, they take that out of our time too.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal practice at Kroger?
Man, I'm really getting pissed at this job, but I've already quit too many jobs as it is. Finding another job around here that would fit my class schedule would be really hard, especially since everything is closing down here.
Well, I'm done venting now. I'd really like to see some reply's from people that know about this stuff.
fake it look busy thier is no way of tracking it. do more then expected and you will be fine. save your energy we are going to need you on every major holiday and every single weekend for the next 15 years. lol hang in their do the best u can stay positive but remember u are on your own. let the manager worry
The 55/hr is a kroger norm. Its not really that hard to do but im sure its harder for canned food then most other things since alot of your stuff is packed 24. (tip: Try holding the case with your leg agianst the shelf so you can use Two hands!)
15 minutes to clean up and face seems pretty damn harsh though. Unless your store has low sales and/or you completely fill it each shift.
As for tracking... They can and Do. You think they don't know exactly how many cases of what you get in? And on what ailes they go? Your wrong! Those computers in the office can print out sheets with case counts on them for every day you work!

Not neccessarily. At our store I had Baked and every night the soups looked like a nightmare. We darn sure could not leave the cans as they were when we started shift. So add to that the time takes to re-organise almost every item you have to stock before you can even start to stock it an d that shoots a big hole in your 55 cases an hour. If the other shifts would get off their arse and rotate stock and do the thing they are supposed to it would be possible. But they don't. I seem to remember something about the earlier shifts being responsible for such things from my orientation (which was a big joke). But then they rushed us through it so fast it is kind of a blur. My isle looked like a total nightmare at the start of my shift. I hired with absolutely no exp. Recieved no training to speak of and was expected to through 50 to 60 cases in 45 min. in addition to straightening out the train wreck of soup cans each night. While i hear the day and evening shift had time to make hideouts in the back with beds and tv's etc.. So it would seem that at this store at least, the burden is being unduely put on the night crew to pick up all the lazy folks slack.
I'm a woman on night crew and I can do a freezer load of 600 by myself in 2 hours. Stock, spot everytthing. With our load being 3000 cases....mmmm
you're full of ****. Maybe a $600 load. 600 cases is between 5-7 pallets depending on what it is. I doubt you can even break it down in two hours by yourself. And unless you're 9 feet tall, "working off the pallet" is not feasible with a load like that.

Not that hard to run 60 cases an hour. The computer says we can do 60 cases an hour. If there are more than 60 cases in the canned section, I can run 60 cases an hour and face the aisle. My manager goes by 40 cases an hour and facing. I can get in between the times without breaking a sweat and the canned section is the hottest in the store.
Were you around when they were using tsg? It expected 60 cases an hour and allocated so much time to face the aisles. I have run and faced all the aisles at our store. I know exactly how long it takes to face each aisle. I can make it fit into the time we were allowed. My manager whines that it isn't enough time. The fusses that we are not moving fast enough.
How long is the aisle of canned goods? describe each set. We have gravy, tuna, chili, chef boy ardi, fruit, tomato stuff, beans, vegetables for canned. Most of our stuff is shelf ready so it should not take a minute to put up a case.
Tie a bag for plastic on your shopping cart or on the pallet jack. Use a sharp cutter blade. I hold the cases with my right arm and fill the shelf 2 cans at a time with my left arm while spinning cans to look nice. Do you actually count how many cases you do an hour?
