Ok, its like i said before, its not enough to just have a high item per min. the key is to have your tender time as low as possible, preferably below .40. You kind of have to develpoe your own scan technique, everyone has their own. For example, before you scan the first item, get produce or large items ready, because they require more time and effort. One effective way to decrease tender time is to do WIC transactions very fast.
not to be mean here but if your having that much trouble that you need a gimmick to get you under the mark, maybe checking isn't your thing? you might be happier in a new dept working stock or even bagging the groceries instead of checking.
just a thought

Tender time is merely the time between hitting total and closing the till. One way to reduce this time is to run checks through then write the information on them. Another way is to hit the Credit/Debit button soon as you hit total. A large percent of customers pay that way. If they don't you just have to hit clear and enter the correct tender type.
a way i found that slows the tender time count is to put any amount check and hold it until the customer is ready. slows not stops. remember if they are paying with a check have some patience and maybe things will go better the rest of your shift. or you can do what i do if you have a selfscheckout number use that for wic and checks early on in your shifts, a few hours in to yourshift dont whine it wont change much
