i am trying to get a position at a local Kroger store.
the interview went awesome, and i was pretty much told as long as my drug screen and background check come back ok, i will get the job.
i am not worried about the drug screen at all, but have a concern about the background check. i have never been convicted of anything, but was arrested once because i had one of my prescription pills out of the container. the case was dismissed (because i proved it was my prescription).
my question is: do they only look for convictions, or do they look at arrests? does anyone know exactly what they look for?
i'd hate to miss this opportunity for a job over something that i technically did not deserve to be in trouble for (although i know i made the mistake of not having my script in the container).
on the application it said the background check would include any convictions, but i don't know if that means on top of anything else that might show up, or only convictions?
i'd really appreciate any info anyone could give me. i really want this job, and know i'd make a great employee.
From what I've heard, its convictions. Any time served. We've had several apply but were turned away after finding out they had past prior convictions. Kinda funny in a way, a company that hires more handicapped and mentally challenged people than I've ever seen but they have standards. I've had several friends who served time in their younger days but are some of the best workers now that their older and more responsible.
i hope you're right, and it only looks for convictions, cause then i know i'll be ok.
i really really want (and need) this job, and it would be a shame to turn away a potentially great employee, because of an unfortunate mishap.
i believe people deserve second chances, because, as you said, some people may have made mistakes in the past, but have gone on to be some of the best employees out there.
well, wish me luck, she said my info should be back around Thursday.
Well then Good Luck...If Kroger is kept in the perspective of "Its a job, just get it done" you'll be ok. IMO, nobody starting at any company today will ever make retiring with a company 20+ years from now. YOu see where the automakers have gone? Theyre paying people to work then paying people for retirement to sit at home. I see rewarding longevity with companies going out the window in the future. Its not like the good ol days 25 years ago. its cut throat now, and refered to as "just good business but nothing persoanl".
Your first 30 days will be hell, your on a trial basis and not even ellible for Union till a certain date or any insurance for another. If you make it past the "probation" period you'll be ok. Just go hit the clock and think sooner in sooner out.
yea congrats on landing the job! people sweat over the small stuff huh. its just human nature to worry over things that really never come into play. we can all understand. they look at arrest for stealing or domestic violence - things like that. your case didnt even make it that far. relax and be happy you got the position. come to the board again
