The Grocery Business is Booming-Despite Hardtimes

Well the economy may suck. And I don't know about other stores but our traffic in the store is UP. Unemployment and layoffs mean people sitting at home and eating. Something even a non-food retail persons can notice. So if foot traffic is up then so is customers spending in the store. With business and sales up, why not put some layed off or un-employed folks to work? Why the skeletal staffs? Unemployed and layed off people are gonna eat. Nows the perfect time to properly staff stores. The "we can't find anybody" excuse is BS now, lots of people out there able to work in a foodstore.

So is your stores business UP???

Well i noticed our store business has actually dropped. maybe not so b/c the economy but more so bc of the new manager we have. i noticed the last manager we had before she went back to working for human resources had great plans for bringing in the cash.. i noticed from averaging 500k a week to 600k a week in a mather of months once she started working in our store.

Our customers just aren't spending the money they used too. Sure, we see a ton of people, but our sales in the past were up because they purchased $100.00 bottles of wine three or four at a time. They are now buying $17.99 bottles. Our customers had money to burn and they loved spending it at Kroger.

They are laying off some corporate people in our region.
