so, how many of you complain when you go shopping? ever have a day where you were generally pissed off and took it out on the people who were working in the store? ever complain about not having your size, your preferred color, you favorite food, drink, whatever? ever snap at clerk because you were dissatisfied? ever been turned off by a surly clerk? no? really!?
customers are just people. people who have lives outside of the one brief encounter with the grocery store personnel. you are not the center of their world and they could care less about what you are going through in your job. but, you know what? you generally get back what you put out there. if you have a nasty attitude, even if you are smiling, then you will only get nasty attitudes back. just smile and treat each person as if they were you having a bad day. honey will catch more flies than vinegar.

I agree. Part time sucks. I have been there for almost 3 years now, and still considered "part time". Which is just bull****, considering I'm 20, out of school, and I am available ANY time of the day. Our manager is a condescending dick, he likes to make real condesceding jokes, like he is better than everyone else. News Flash Tim Speicher: You are no better than us. I hate how it seems like the Early shift gets to **** off and do basically nothing all day, and then push the work off on to the late person. I currently work as a produce clerk, and I have had 4-8 shifts and STILL had to cut fruit because it hadn't been done. The department head barely does any work, he disappears for cigarette breaks all the time (Without clocking out) and blames **** on other people (for instance, we didn't get any 10 for $10 salad on a truck one night, "Oh, jeff must have forgot to order it..." and just looks away sheepishly..) I swear, if it weren't for the economy I would be out of this **** hole. When it shapes up, I will be gone.
yeah, sounds like you are in a tough spot at your produce department. it's not that way across the board....our produce department is pretty well run and i haven't heard any of the complaints that you have voiced.
but you know, if you honestly believe your shift is carrying the brunt of the workload, you really need to discuss it with your department head. if your department head is the problem, then you need to discuss it with your co-managers/store managers. it's their job to make sure all the departments are working smoothly.
That's a great idea, but generally management at Kroger only want to turn a blind eye. If your the one that goes to them saying something is wrong then your labeled as the problem child.
There is no way to fix a program that is based on using people as much as possible as quickly as possible and then discard them.
That produce dept head stays where he is because he doesn't go to management saying, "Hey we need to fix this" or "What can we do to make this better?"
Kroger management only like people who they never see. Those who don't have any problems.
Be invisible and you'll be fine at Kroger.. but always keep looking for anything bettter.. Kroger isn't a career, it's a temp job

After working in low-paying jobs for just about my entire working life....I gotta say that when I go shopping or out to eat, I treat people with respect, tip well and try not to ruin anyone's day. Sure, i'd be disappointed if I wasn't able to get this or that, but I understand that a lot of the time, especially in corporate stores, the person you will see face-to-face has little to no control over anything at all. If it was something really big, yeah, I'd probably fuss at a store manager, but even then, I mean, they have to babysit close to a hundred employees during their shift and still get their own jobs done. Why make someone's life hard?
Anyone who's ever waited tables would not treat a waiter like crap. The people that treat others like crap are the ones who have rarely suffered themselves.
