$hit, our stores got people thats been there 20-30 years and been riding the clock.Half the time they only do 4 hours of productive work in a 8 hours span.

Find a "lifer" and make notes of their clock riding, smoking, hiding in closed off rooms up by the generators, then when they rag you or ride your case about taking a fiver to burn a smoke, tell'em you'll settle out of court or they can give the place a enima and get rid of their precious "lifers". They can't just single out you.

if you work an 8 hour shift you get 2- 15 minute breaks which you get paid for and you get 1/2 hour lunch whichYOU DON'T GET PAID FOR.  most managers watch the time clock from upstairs on their computers, so they know when someone is beating kroger time by not clocking out like they should and eventually they will catch you.

what is the policy if you are late to punch in and/or late to punch out? How closely does the store monitor this? Are the cameras used  a lot, and if so, do they spy on employees?
What is the security guard do at the store? Is he there to get shop lifters, or spy for the company on employees?
