Store Managers

What is there salary and what do they actually do all day? It seems like the ones in my store just stand in the back and pretend to be busy.

How does one go about getting this job?

What are the requirments?

I know the Kroger management IS NOT union. And not allowed to be in the union. We got a few lumps sweating our manager retiring this next year. Theyre affraid they'll get someone who's tougher on the lumps. As for requirements, from what I've seen not very much other than being at Kroger and taking a screwing for a long time. The bigger the ******* you are, themore chance of being in management you have.hahahaha

There's a lot more to it than you think. You wonder why your managers are on you about getting things done all the time. Well, try having your District Managers come in at random times, and threaten your job due to store conditions. That part you don't see...
There is a lot going on in that office upstairs that you don't know about! Also, if you plan on jumping the fence into management, becoming a department head for 4 years, and getting an associate degree is the best way to go. Otherwise, a Bachelor degree in business management is a must.

My store has managers with the degrees and they don't know half the stuff some of the more experienced employees know.  A degree don't always mean you know how to do the job.

Wow! Theres a lot of testy employees here begrudging managemnt. Go figure. I wonder what some of you were doing back when you were in high school.

Well Kroger does have a co manager program. All you need to do is apply. Then you will have to meet the requirements and have an interview. Kroger is always in need of good manager candidates.

I was always told a sign of a good manager is when you can stand around and drink coffee and have the staff get the job done.

No, i know what this person means. I have managers disappear for hours at a time. I understand disappearing for say a meeting, or ordering, or so you can create the schedule, but to be absent most of the day nearly every day? My previous manager always gave us a hard time. Crap, she would even make us cry, but she was ALWAYS on hand and ALWAYS helped the best to her ability. The heads would always still give her crap though. That poor woman. I'm talking department managers anyways. Although I've had store managers just come in and stare at me for a good 10 or 15 minutes without once offering to help. Just staring at me blankly and creeping me out.

the kroger managers are the biggest joke on earth. at my store we have a lady store manager who is ok but one day she'll smile and be very talkative to you and the next day she'll give you a dirty look and say nothing to you.we even had one co manager who acted all big and bad but he had anxiety attacks all the time and had to leave over them....

Store manager went fishing half the year when I first started working. He was hardly seen on the sales floor and the same being in the office. He model time theft, doing nothing. He frown near me when he seen me sorting items. He was terminated after new employee like me- was asking other store managers at different stores.

It varies.. a lot. From bright and hard-working to obviously, dangerously crazy. Most actual managers move on to real jobs or get broken into slaves. Suspected snitches need not apply and loyalty tests are frequent.

Pre-covid, they were about $70k.

Post-covid inflation is no less than a third, so I'd offer a wild-assed guess of around $80k with nonsense bonus programs that will never make up the difference.
