Possible Harassment...

If an associate with less seniority keeps leaving notes designed to irritate you, could this be grounds for harassment?

A situation developed several months ago, where I had to inform the office of an associate who continually left tons of unfinished work. It got to the stage where I had to do something about it. The associate - who is now leaving all these notes - actually flared up at me and started arguing with me. Told me I need to get on with my own work and quit worrying about other people. Also accused me of "ratting to the office". I looked upon this outburst as a total lack of respect. He never apologised, and the relationship went totally downhill after that.

This guy was a great worker until one of his friends came into the department - after that he became mouthy and arrogant...which is another reason why I don't like him too much. Actually, that is a complete understatement. I have totally lost all respect for this guy.

Anyway, now we have the notes designed to annoy me.

Is it best to ignore this, or make an issue of it

Do you respect him? I know there are a ton of people at my store who treat me like crap and are always leaving work for me and causing my life to be sucky. I always put up with the "seniority" People treating me like crap. Did you deserve to get blown up at? Did you treat this employee like Crap? You can only get respect if you give others respect. I know i am a great worker and at my store no one respects that. I get treated like crap by a lady who thinks she knows everything. Never stays to help anyone doesn't even care. I give my all for my department and no one gives a crap. Anyway notes shouldn't make you mad. I leave notes only because i never see my co workers who leave me a lot of work. Just understand Kroger is a sucky place to work already Make it a better place for the other employees . If your in seniority don't be setting a bad example set a good example they will likely follow suite. BUT DON"T GET MAD WHEN THEY DISRESPECT YOU IF YOU WILL NOT RESPECT THEM!!!!!!

Nope. You have got the wrong end of the stick here. I get on fine with everyone but this guy. I was actually in the store when the note was left. It is the wording of the note. Designed to cause the maximum annoyance. I am a very hard worker, and I not not respect him...simply because he doesn't work in a way to deserve it. Surely you have come across people like this - I am sure from your post that you have. It was actually the other way around - a lazy kid was always leaving a whole skid of work back in the cooler...which is why this situation blew up.

Your store actually sounds worse than mine - you need to leave, dude.

Yep! According to the verbage in your handbook, it is! Here's where you need to go. First, don't blind-side your Manager. Tell them what's going on and the issue. Then ask for a meeting with the person with a Management person in the room to moderate. Tell the person " I feel..." and "My expectation is...". Don't  do the High School thing and play the blame game - look for the median of a compromise on his expectations and yours. I bet both you and he will come to amiccalble terms. Good luck !

From what you have said, I do not know if this is harrassment. What did he say in the note and where did he post it? I understand your reason for not typing that info in.

We all know that the workplace is like a microcosm of society. There will be people you get along with great and others that you don't. There might be a person who like your husband or wife you sorta love then all the sudden something happens and a divorce occurs. Anyhow life goes on.

What i might suggest is wait for that perfect moment when you and him are in a good mood just doing both your things (you over there stocking / him over there eating samples) and toss out the olive branch. Just tell him/her that we need to get things back on track. Let him know your past frustrations and that you just want to come to work and be happy. Give him the speel.

I think going upstairs and blabbing might not be in your best interest. Best of luck. I feel like dear Abby.
