New Years, Christmas, thanksgiving, Fourth of July and Labor day are the only paid holidays in Dallas and local 540`s contract.

We tried to get Memmorial day and easter included but we was told easter is more of a religous holiday and would not be excepted.

Christmas is a religious holiday too. In fact, the term "holiday" (holi - day) is derived from "holy day".

Have been on several contract talks where we asked for Easter and Kroger would not do it or ad any other holidays to be paid. They stated that Easter was a religious holiday and to give us that day would offend others that do not recognize it in their religion. Kroger could give more Personal days and paid holidays but it is like everything else. It has a price and on negotiations you have to determine where you want to spend the money. In extra holidays, health care, pay rates or other benefits that has an economical point to it.

Poor respect for the Fallen.   Kroger Not paying Memorial day is not taking into account the respect that many of the employees would want to pay to some relatives who died on their military duty... Sad.        Shame on Kroger and on The "Union".
