Saddened and betildered am I that our fellow associates are told " how valued and appreciated "we are...everytime one of their corporate videos comes out...yet we are made to feel otherwise by those who are in store management. Please explain to me how an employee can be accused of in store theft and threatened of being fired for getting ice out of the store's automatic ice machine??????????? Are they running out of things to make new rules for???? Are we guilty of stealing the air we breath when we are in the store but "not yet on the clock"? Where does the nit-picking end?? We are asked how to improve morale, yet everytime we turn around there is a "new rule" I don't think the phone book is as thick as the constantly edited set of rules I've wittnessed at my store.
Sad but true is the morale is generally set by the store manager and passed down thru the co`s and others. have had more managers than I care to count, over 20 years, but only had two ( present one is included) that was more harm to the morale of the store than anything. Don`t that you would be fired for just taking crushed Ice from an ice machine but then I could have been fired for getting a sample cookie , from the bakery every time I take all their truck product to them.
Morale at my store is non existant. Managers treat employees like complete crap, and some employees simply don't care if they do a good job or not anymore. Can't say I blame them, though.
Same can be said for 488 in SWKMA, in McKinney Texas. It is more of our store manager ( a former Wal-Mart manager) pushing un realistic goals for the lack of hired help( ELMS hours) to get the tasks done. I have had 10 write-up , on me, in the last 8 months that he was here. Never had one in my kroger career until then. They was all dismissed in a recent grievance hearing. Management can run the store the way they want but we employee`s still have to enforce our rights, contract and company policies or it will get worse. And it does not take more than one or two store managers , getting away with everything before the others start doing it too.

When I had my altercation with on of the Co's, she told me that I wasn't the only hard worker (but I was one of the few to go the extra mile) and said that if I left that day, I wouldn't be missed and they'd be just fine without me.
2 weeks and I was back in there thanks to the Union, and as soon as I came back, everyone was going on their vacations, and guess who they asked to do markdowns and whatnot? Moi.
This week my head Deli/Bakery manager is on vacation, and they forced me to do markdowns (by threat of writeup, and believe it or not, I don't have one against me yet) because I was the only one who could do them.
Hello Veteran Member. I too have been an employee for many years. Back when we were made to feel like "we" made a difference and were truly valued. Back when caring about doing a good job was of great worth and personal satisfaction. Those days are gone.... sadly anyone who isn't under the "old" contract will never know what morale was like when the employees were happy to be at work. Since we and others like us...still working or since retired..have something to compare it too and know the difference in being valued or just being told we are by a Corporate video once every 4 to 6 mos. and then told how unproductive we are on a daily basis by those who don't really understand what it takes to do our job. Ohh, by the way.. ELMS... stands for _E-macuately _Lacking _Much _Sense..!!! LOL ............. Best Wishes to you
