i work for a kroger store that has a store director who can be nice one second and just in one split second change to a crazy demon. I do many things in this store and can be scheduled in one day three different departments in one day. I am frankly sick of being over used and over worked. I have to be a back up bookeeper, pos, checker, do rpc, and sometimes even help run the front end. Meanwhile i get yelled at if the rpc is not kept to a minimal, yet my store director does not take into consideration all the time i spend completing her long list of tasks that she lays out in front of me. I get lectured if i happen to take my lunch a little bit after my scheduled time because regardless of whatever circumstance that held me back it doesnt matter. My store director "needs me" back on time. yet i continue to see other employees be late for work, have many absences and still are there. I have only called in twice in the three years i have been there. Quite frankly i am losing my work ethic, i am starting to feel resentful and bitter due to the mounting pressure of having to take care of so many things. Once when i said i was not feeling well at work and told my store director i was very sorry but i needed to go to the doctor cuz i could not continue with my day, she yelled at me that they only way i could leave was to find someone to cover my shift and did not allow me to leave until certain tasks were completed. I was in tears after, i went to the doctor and found out i had two different infections and was told that i was overstressed and overworked. He ordered me to stop working, but what do you do when your income provides for your family, what do you do when people at home need you?
I'm so sorry you have a nutcase as a store manager. About calling in, you just call in. After three days you need a note. Seriously, if you are ill you owe it to yourself NOT to ask for permission- you need to tell them.
You could possible take paid vacation time or a six month leave of absences to find/work a different job. You could also have a sit down face to face talk with her.
I blew up our store manager, because I was doing all the work and watching the kids play around. It doesn't do you any favors to hold it in. If your are as good as you say you are, she knows it and just needs a reminder.
the bad thing about our cultural council is that the store director attends our meetings, and i was under the impression that the store director should not be present. so people are afraid to voice their opinions in the meeting cuz the store director will pretty much know where the grievance is coming from.

Im on the new contract. with the union. I called in sick twice this month and only this year. My mgr asks me to have a doctors note. for the second time. I rarely call in sick, but what happends if i dont have one can they write me up?
have not seen our store CC really get anything done. Store manager seems to always have the final say in things. I do what is asked and if I do not like it or it violates our contract then he will know it and the union also. But have to ask this one question for anyone to answer. Has this company ever had a bigger waist of time that to set up a day of listening where you can go ( on one set day) and have the store director available to set down and listen to any complaint(s) one has about the store, management, the company or anything else you want to discuss.
