I'm a cashier at a Kroger in Tennessee. Is there someone who can write out the steps for doing WIC at the register? I've been walked through it a few times, but it's so complicated that it never seems to stick in my head. It would be greatly appreciated!
The new WIC procedure we have at our store goes as follows:
*No need to separate WIC items from the rest of the order*
1. Scan items through order as normal.
2. When finished press the EFT button.
3. Customer slides WIC CARD FIRST and their pin on the pin pad.
4. You will get a "receipt" which you show the customer to go through and make sure all their items they want on WIC are accounted for. (THIS IS NOT THEIR FINAL WIC RECEIPT! Just toss it when you are done referring to it with the customer.)
If it's not right, hit VOID and EFT and figure out from there to take things off. Then you will have to hit EFT again and they slide their card again etc.
5. The customer selects AMOUNT OK on the pin pad.
6. The WIC part is done and the remaining portion of their total will appear, you just proceed as if it's a normal transaction (EFT, CHECK, CASH etc).
7. When the transaction is over, the receipt prints as normal. The top portion is their regular receipt and the bottom portion is the WIC receipt.
Hmm.. unfortunately, we don't have a NEW way of doing WIC at our store yet. How do you do WIC if the customer is using one of those giant WIC checks? Thanks for your help!
Press WIC button twice.. enter the first day of the month then the last day of the month and it will let you start scanning. Check to make sure the items match with the check and scan them through.. total it..have them sign the check, press WIC button twice again and it will ask you to insert the document.. put it in like a check. Check their signature on their wic book and its done.
Thank you so much!!!! It really helps me a lot to see it written out like that. I have one final question, though: What about the WIC checks for produce? Isn't there a different way to do those? I think you scan the items first and then take the foodstamp total or something but I can't remember.
