Our union rep seems to be working and backing the company more than it does the employees who pay him. He'll never give you a straight answer and always defends the company. Sorry but if I pay somebody, they're going to listen and I don't know if there are any good union reps, but I'd like to see one
The union itself is a joke. I had the assistant chief steward gripe me out in the middle of the aisle for something I didn't do. She works reclaim, and I'm in grocery. She said I'd left a bag of flour that'd been cut on her reclaim cart without emptying it beforehand. This was back at the end of last year. I ignored her, then went to the union office to complain...she doesn't bother me much anymore, but I still don't think it does any good.
Ours ( local 540) does not but there are times that he is stretched thin as he is responsible to cover every Kroger meat department, about 90 stores. Have had run ins with the local 1000 reps over the years while helping their members. Quick call to their regional office and an email to UFCW in Washington, always got results for me. Had one many years ago decide to cuss me out and tell me who the boss was until Washington and our local president got a hold of my emails. Never had a problem with that rep again.
So just curious here. Are you basing your opinion , of the union, on just one out of control employee that is hiding behind a little union title to intimidate you and others? Try going to meetings and getting involved in the union and then change things a little at a time. You could then have her position and who knows what next,

I know this is an old chat; but --- our union reps do more than suck. I belong the local UFCW 8 in California. When we have a problem, they always say "that's a gray area" The whole contract is obviously printed on gray paper.
We recently voted?? for a new contract. I know of at least 25% of two separate store where member did not receive ballots.
