I'm wondering how long does it usually take to get full time? At my store we just hads some full time jobs posted and at te top of the list were people with over 24 years experience. I've only been there 6 years but work harder than most of the full timers. It ain't right that I should have to wait because of some absurd union rules!
I'm a back-up but its for frozen food. So its a non bid job. Not to blow my own horn but I work harder than most of our full timers. What happened to the good ole days when you were rewarded for how hard you worked, not how long you been on the job.
Well frozen doesn't have a manager they have a lead clerk and i didn't think they had back ups? And it is like the good old days when you sign up for a part time job that's what you got till a full time position is opened Kroger couldn't stay opened if everyone was full time
Meat department in Dallas contract area ( local 540) you must average ( not scheduled but average) 35 hours a week for 12 weeks and you are then classified as full time. After that you can drop down to 32 hours a week and maintain all benefits and pay. If you drop down to 28 hours a week then you go to part time pay but still have full time benefits and pension status. Markets are all so short handed and hard to keep people that most everyone seems to get enough hours to qualify for full time and then keep their benefits when hours do get cut back some.
You are not full time you get full time benefits but you do not get guaranteed full time hours which is 40 and your hours can go down and you lose the full time benefits there is a difference.

you sound a lot like me, sir. Well me of the past, I still work hard, but not nearly as hard as I did a couple years ago. I've been here 6 years as well and it took me a few to learn that just because you are the hard worker you are, it won't get you anywhere unless THEY want you to go there...for this reason I still have the same job I had a few years ago, granted the pay has gotten a bit better but I still get paid less than some people who do less work than me. And what really gets me is that I make less than some people who have been with the company not as long as myself. You know, there's a lot of instances at our jobs where you might feel like you're being selfish or screwing other people and that may be hard to get over but in the end, seriously you are only there for one reason; yourself, to earn money to live better, so I've decided I don't care who I screw whether they're just another co-worker or even if they're my friends...sorry, but I'm not here to make friends.
tl:dr: it is a shame that this company only pays those who have been here the longest and doesn't look at most people's work habits. I'm always on time and never call in, but yet I'm still just another "body" to them. Work every weekend while some people whine and moan and don't work them. It's BS, this company sucks.
Since those of you at my store know who I am, go ahead and call me out on this one, I don't care. Hey I'm the only one who actually has the balls to not post anonymously. eat that suckers!
I kick ass everyday. Everyone will tell you how great I am. They will also shake their head when they discover I am not full time.
You gotta make a deadline for yourself. If by XX date, I'm not full time I will find another job. If you don't do it, you will be at Kroger in twenty years waiting for a full time position.
My date is October 30th. If they can't make a position for me, I will get seasonal work that will turn into full time work.

If those people have been there 24 years and they're not full time yet, they probably don't want the full time. If a full time position comes up, go ahead and put in for it even if you're not at the top of the list. You might get it anyway if no one else higher than you applies. We had a guy at our store put in for a job as a floating meat specialist. He's only worked for Kroger less than a year but he got the job anyway because nobody else applied.
