awhile back one of our managers came down with a box of ziploc bags and was passing them out to all department heads as "spill response kits". Inside each baggie, was a folded up Brawny paper towel like the ones we all use for cleaning. So we all get to talking about why they must carry them (for fast spill response!) the thing is, how much can you really clean up with 1 paper towel. I joked about it because a lot of spills are much larger and throwing a single paper towel at it would be somewhat comical to watch. "Take That spill!" It'd be about like trying to plug the titanic with a piece of chewing gum.
Anyway it turns out that either the stores or the company in general is shelling out lots of $ to pay people to stuff these ziploc bags with paper towels. I find this odd because it seems we're so hell bent on saving every last penny these days that they'd spend frivilously on something like this. Turns out the money spent is going to a good cause, which makes me feel like crap for my original joking remark, but still, in a time where they're trying to be so 'money conscious' why are they going to all this trouble? I mean seriously it would cost far less to buy baggies and paper towels that we already have in-store and do this ourselves. Maybe, just maybe, key retailing would allow time for that!
We have spill response stations with with spill magic (the powder stuff) a broom dust pan and a big box of the industry paper towel in certain areas of the store
We have these pads that soak up loads of liquid. Quick and easy. I love them and I kick myself when I don't one. It's a 4x7 pad and it just soaks up liquid.
I hate seeing a spill and not having a pad with me. I thought they were stupid at first, but they are so freakin' handy. Maybe I should get the MSI for you or something.

Have the same thing in our store but we also keep a box of case liners in the market, and they do seem to take care of some big liquid spills without having to get a mop or that powder crap out.
^case liners? are these the white "diapers" that go in cases or are you referring to the black non-skid stuff? Whichever it is, I had no idea they would have any use in cleaning up large spills.

Yes they are the same big white diapers that goes into the cases when cleaned . But when they have the soft drink, juices and bottlet water next to the market where there are several spills and we grab the first thing that we have. Case liners and a trash can. Most of the times we can a few of them and dry the floor and clean up before anyone can come clean it up. Not the best practice to use them but it works and they either like it or get a package clerk or utility clerk come clean it up sooner.

What he's talking about is not the SPILL RESPONSE CENTER that has the jug of powder in it, he's talking about the SPILL RESPONSE PACK. They probably have a segment of people from a non-profit organization that gives jobs to the handicapped and then buys them from them very cheaply but gets a write off for helping a non-profit.
I carry mine everyday. Yeah it's a little anal, but I was glad to have mine several times when I just need to wipe some coffee off the floor without having to go half way across the store to find a box of paper towels.
is it brilliant, prolly not, but I'm not gonna get upset over it.
And yet I managed from his post to understand that and say all we have are the stations but thank you for clarifying

All the managers (store, co, dept.) carry one for the most part. They're pretty useless, though, as the managers will usually call someone to bring a mop to clean it up, instead of actually using the kit itself.
Well for the record, a district manager was walking our store one day and we were in produce. There were some smashed grapes on the floor (slip and fall waiting to happen).. he turned to me and said.. can you find a papertowel or something?
Lucky me, I had my little paper towel in the baggie inside my clipboard and handed it right over. whewwww I was happy I had it with me!
