New Contract

Well the new contract here in Michigan that we get to vote on on Aug 24th, is nothing more than an insult to us employees. The offer is as follows:

$700 lump sum for Department Heads
$500 lump sum for full timers
$300 lump sum for part timers

25 cent raise Aug 7th, 2011 with a 3 year maximum raise of 75 cents.

Kroger is totally taking advantage of the fact that the employees here in Michigan are living paycheck to paycheck and I wish I could come up with a way to get everybody to vote "No," so they can go back to the table.

well I know everyone's contract's are different but in yours aside from the lump sum they're offering, are they doing anything with your insurance?  Last time our contract got renewed, they raised the weekly cost from $0 to $4 for a single employee (more for famalies or spouses).  Of course, like we do every time, we accepted it.  I'm sick of everyone being so lazy, we just take whatever crap they throw our way, well we need to stand up and take what's rightfully ours or at least get something worthwhile.  The lump sums you got sound cool, but from what I hear, they used to give out bonuses each year that were probably more than that!  Guess what? they voted the bonuses out so now instead of getting the extra cash on top of the contract raises, they're trying to give you the extra as part of the 'regular deal'  i.e.:  what used to be an 'extra' is now like 'standard'  hope that makes sense.   .....stupid stupid stupid!

oh and last contract they also gave department backups a $0.50 raise, and nothing to us 'nobodies'.  well i don't know if they know it or not, but the backups don't always do more work.  I called the union rep out on this, he said "well we try to help those who have been here the longest"  Well what about those of us who have been here numerous years but barely make over minimum wage?  Guess they don't care about us.  They just try to kiss department head and backup ass

Well the vote on this contract came back as a "No" vote, so who knows what's going to happen now.

Good luck. We've been at the tables since April. No proposals have slipped out. No news is good news? I dunno. BTW, I'm in the Houston area.

75 cents. Yucky!

UFCW 876 is nothing but a puppet union. They only concern is to get your union dues to secure their jobs.

Was at our union meeting last night ( local 540 in Dallas) and they said Houston was set to meet with Kroger for the next few days. Only problem is that the Wife of the internationas UFCW president had died and that all the local presidents will be going to pay thier respects so looks like some of those talks in Houston may get delayed. Do know too that Dallas clerks have always been below the pay of Houston . Leads and department heads up here got raises but they will also get another one to match what Houston gets if they are higher that the Dallas rates.

Maybe they are a joke but got back from out union meeting and here is what they had done in the last month. Settled 21 grievances that they one and lost one. Got back pay /retro totalling about $3000. Got several people re-enstated and placed at higher Classifications and pay rates they are to have. Earned about $70000 in retro/baqck pay for the members last year and about thirty this year so far. And we are onlt a 600 member kroger unit.

this is what I found that they have done in Houston so far this year.

It Doesn't Cost - It Pay's To Belong

YOUR UNION WORKING HARD FOR YOU

Totals for Grievances Through JULY, 2010

  Grievances Pending                                                192  Grievances Resolved - 2010                                   310

  Employees Reinstated - 2010                                   36

  Total (Back pay) - 2010                      $       146,877.49

 TOTAL RETRO PAY & BENEFITS - 2009   $   391,097.24

   Grievances Resolved - 2009                                  815

  Employees Reinstated - 2009                                  84

Just think how much more money and turnover there would be if they had no union to watch over they workers.

I have to agree with that, there's already talks about striking coming from our Union representatives.

I have always been a good supporter of My local and the job they have done. But they did have a bad contract a while back that really did not do much for clerks pay rates. But it was corrected later on. But then I am in a right to work state and if the union wants to maintain a high membership, then it has to be help more accountable to its members and do a better job, not resting on its laurels. I am in Local 540 but have sen and had friends i  local 1000 ( Dallas clerks) that has had many problems with that local. If I was in that local it would be a toss up as to if I would be a member or not. Always told them , co-workers, to hold their feet to the fire and if not happy with the union to contact the regional office and then the international office if they feel they are not getting the service they deserve.

Grumpy, are you one of the union reps living high on our union dues?

My understanding is this bonus was a bribe only to be paid to max out employees!

Maybe the Kessel division should ask for parity with the rest of the Michigan stores.  Maybe they would get more then minimum wage pay!

Absolutely correct! Everybody else that wasn't maxed out, wouldn't get anything in this contract. On the Great People website, Kroger is stating that a strike is counter-productive and is still sticking to their guns when they say that this is a more than fair contract in this economy. Most people in the Michigan Kroger's make less than $8 an hour, you can not live off of that!

Michigan Kroger Workers Extend Contract | United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876
Sep 02, 2010, Supermarket News, By SN STAFF
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. Â After workers at 17 Kroger stores in the Flint and Saginaw, Mich., areas rejected a labor contract offer from Cincinnati-based Kroger Co., they have agreed to extend the current pact until Sept. 15, reports said Thursday.

Just have to wonder if thgis is only going to be extended to the 15th or indefinatly. Ours ( local 540) was extended until the end of June and we still have not gotten back with them to talk at all. But they do have to finish Houston first and theirs expired in early April. Maybe they will get this done for you before the thanksgivving holiday season

well that's a load of crap!  They always try to help those who need the least help in this day and age.  The people who are bustin their butts day in day out and barely getting by are those who need help!! Not those who don't work as hard and are already making nearly double what us "real workers" are making.  This blows

So here is the Savings to kroger.
Lets use the Full timers $500 is about .25 cents per hour . Give then that .25 up front and it costs kroger about ( 6192 X .25) $1548 over the contract so they just saves $1048 per full timer and that does not include OT.
Now you have 4128X.25 and that is $1032 in that second year and that should have been doubled if they gave you the .25 up front as opposed to a one time bonus bribe.

Now that third year you are looking at 2064X.75 or $1548 that last year.

What they are probably saying is that they are offering $ 1.25 for full timers and add about .09 more for department heads.

So who seems to be the ungrateful bastard here? As a full timer you should be getting about ( 6192 X 1.25)
$7740 in pay if you got it all up front but the way it comes out you will only see ( 4128 X .25 + 2064 X .75 + $500) $3080 out of that. You have to wonder who the greedy  and selfish bastard is in this matter.
