If my Union were to go on strike and I wanted to keep working, would I be able too? Also when the strike is over, would I still keep my job, when all the other workers return to work?
You will still keep your job but I would not expect to be treated very nice by your fellow union co-workers. You are better off not crossing the picket line.

You can work and do as you please but remember that if you ever think management is hard on you, then wait until you pissed off all your co-workers that worked hard to get you your rights, pay, benefits and other job securities that comes with a union. You will become the ultimate outsider and then just see how fast your union and co-workers come to your aide when management rides your ass.
yeah, but you never know. I was here 12 years, untill I had my firt greivence. 11 years, not even one write up. now, i;'m suspended pending, fighting to get my job back, over a initial ! trust me, kroger does NOT recognize time with the company. they will ax you first chance they get. it has gotten worse over the years, and it's not going to get anybetter. your best bet, during a union strike, is get a temp job untill it blows over. kroger will NOT apreciate you working against the union, and will show no gratitude latter one.
Well I'm never had a union issue in the 4 and a half years that I'm worked for Kroger. No grievances filed or anything.
I never had a reason to call the union for almost 20 years until we got a new managewr that had to learn the Kroger ways and the contract mas to what can and can not be done. Then tried to import Walmart ways and set his own standards and policies. 22 write-ups later and he finally came around to understanding he can not just go on his onwn agenda. Never has a write-up with my assistant ( 6 years) and my cutter ( 2 years) until he came along. And as I said that was 22 write-ups in the meat department in less than a year.

What have you done for me lately is more of the attitude you will find from the management and what I find a little troubling is they seem to be more going outside the company to hire more co`s and store managers rather that working to promote from within. Do know that in the Dallas area ( about 90 stores) we was told at a market manager meeting that there was 38 store manager changer in just this year alone since January .
And do not put it past them to try to get rid of Red circle rate people and then hire them back at a cheaper rate. Know of that happening in the market a few times last year alone.
The news is saying that a strike is still likely to happen.
Okay please tell me what local this is and what erea of the contry are you talking about? AQlso what is the main big issue that is causeing this. Just interested since our contract talks are on hold until Houston can get done.
UFCW Local 876 in Flint, Michigan. The main issue is that they are only giving raises and a lump sum of money to "top rated" Kroger employees.
I would have voted to reject that contract too. Seems about two or tree contacts ago, We got about a $1.20 over three years but the meat clerks got mother the first year but a one lump sum, $.15 the second year and a lump sum the last year. Now I can not speak for you but in a right to work state, that was a slap in the face to the clerks and trying to sign up new members. Only 3 people on that committe had a big problem with that pay rates and I was one of them. I was still lkearning and was convinced to give the contact a unanimous vote by the committe to except. next go around they finally listend to some of us grumpy old bastards like me.
Have to wonder if there is any locals in the Kroger land that has gotten benefits and anything for the workers in the Fuel Centers. I could just be ignorant here but get the opinion that Kroger and the locals seem to treat those people like a after thought or an ugly step child.
Just my grumpy old opinion here but got the feeling that if kroger gives the fuel center employee`s any type of benefits, then All the locals will start to demand the same. Seems like Kroger is pushing ( while the locals are afraid to try) that it has precedence here in not giving them anything and does not want to set a new precedence of giving the unions anything in any local and then having to give everyone the same thing.
