think about it realistically: they pay someone (lord knows how much) to sit up there and catch thieves when a lot of times the $ amount lost by thieves doesn't add up to what the company pays the security guys... seems like a lost cause to me, but hey who am i to criticize a company that throws money away on the wrong things all the time? Many times they spend more time watching employees like hawks rather than actually catching thieves, hmmm another good call, we know what they're doing and believe me, it's no secret that they spend a considerable amount of time watching employees rather than walking the floor looking for real criminals.
Let's say for example that the security guy gets paid $8 an hour, now unless he's catching someone who's attempting to steal more than $8 worth of merchandise (for every hour he's working), it's a waste of time and money...am i right? can anyone else see where I'm coming from on this issue?
how about the money they waste on camers INSIDE depts, looking at employees? like a robber is gonna run behind the deli counter, and grab some meat. and the door scaners, they completly ignore at my store ? security Is there to intimidate, and watch the employees. after all, kroger claims 65% of theft is caused by employees, 25% by venders, only 10% buy cUstomers. notice, no management % ? managers at my store steel out of deli backery and kitchen all the time, rather then buy any lunch
Security in our store doesn't catch anybody, but they sure do watch all of the employees. I know this because when us third shift guys condition the store we find half eaten deli chickens, half eaten fruit, empty packages of meat from the meat department, half drank powerades, etc. Security is truly a waste if they are always at our store and the customers have time to do all of this in an aisle.
^I can't see how this guys supervisor hasn't caught onto this. Surely they have to show some sort of progress, but who knows? Like someone said, they spend more time watching employees and vendors than they do with customers, so that tells you something right there
@Em, true, but when the security guard is in plain clothes the customer isn't supposed to notice them. I guess it's just the presence of a security person...knowing he or she is in the store..
we don't get security in the store i work at. we have loss prevention people dressed in plain clothes watching customers, it doesn't take me long to figure out who the guy is if he's new, they get rotated. i have worked retail for what seems like forever and i think employee theft is half, customer theft the other half.
The employess used to catch more shoplifters than security, until they told us we cant do anything now. We are just supposed to let management know, but I work the night shift and there is no manager, so we just have to let them go. So, after 200 or so employess were told not to do anything about shoplifters, the word got out and at night when there is no security, "customers" come into the store and steal anything thats not nailed down! But since someone got sued for roughing up a criminal, its now a free-for-all and the whole city is in on it. But I know, like everyone has said, if I even think about taking something out of that store without a reciept I would be fired on the spot!
