I just got promoted to being the service director of my store. The previous hiring manager can't get it through her head that I am now the person to hire new employees. Everyday I get phone calls asking for the hiring manager, and I let them know it's me. They then tell me that they thought it was this other person. I keep bringing it up to my manager, but she doesn't believe me. I don't know what to do. She keeps hiring all these people that I don't approve of, and basically brings the worst into our store. I just don't know what to do anymore. She thinks she's store manager, when in reality, she is just an ACSM, Ughhh.
Goooooooooooooooood luck. 20 some years with kroger in the Dallas area and only known that the store Director has the final say on any and all hires in his/her store. Was a time when each store had its own hiring coordinator but many years back they went to a hiring coordinator for several store. Store manager still has the last word on all hires including any No-rehires that would apply.
Now if you happen to come across any meat department help then send them my way . Seems that in the North Dallas area it is hard to get anyone to want to work. The worse group to hire from ( in the northern suburbs ) is white males between 18 to 22 years old. They are a waist of time to train and retain.
what the heck is a "service director"? is that like an 'associate manager'? paper pusher/does the hiring/makes coffee/uses lots of overtime while we have none/keep the chair warm person...sound about right?
was a time , many years ago when there was one person in each store that was responsible for the hiring, payroll, store related HR crap and official store management ass licker, but they got rid of that over 10 years ago in the Dallas area. But there still is an un-official ass licker or kisser in each store.

take a look, what do you expect to get in this economy from new hires most people would rather live on welfair then go to work for minimum wage. Your not going to get a 13 dollar and hour worker paying them 7.35 an hour, in this world you get what you pay for. However there are those special few who do step up, but very hard to find.
