stores closing

it has begundisbelief
one of the oldest kroger stores in GA is closing up, next month.
too many stores, too close together, and they are competing with each other, which i was saying 6 years ago, when they built two krogers, inbetween where i live, and the kroger i work at/ you simply can't have stores five miles apart, in a realitivly small city, like cumming, for them to not draw each others money.
the last one built, never has done well, and been a money drain from day one. it may shut down next year.
the oldest went first, because it hasn,t been remoldled in over 20 years, and doesn't make enough to afford one.
i feel sorry for all the people that are going to loose their jobs, all part timers are doomed,. full timers are going to be placed by senority, with a few, loosing their jobs too.
kroger got big for its britches, and now, the pants have ripped.
of coarse, they are blamming walmart, but in that area, their are 4 krogers, 1 walmart. obviously, kroger is responsable for it,s own problems herebuilding where there was no need.
bad sign thou. this is only the second kroger i have ever seen closed, in my 12 years.for them to already be talking about a third, doesn't sound good

wouldn't those people who lost their jobs at a store that got closed down be able to transfer to one of the other store and keep their seniority and all?

With our contact, if a store is closed then the employees can transfer to another store and replace employees with less seniority, providing they are willing to make the drive . Usually is not a problem and there has been a few times that a store closed and they had a market manager move to another close store and stay there until something comes up. If I was going to worry it would be the new hires at a store near by that would have to face loosing their job because a person with more seniority at the closed store would be there and me out the door.

yes they will.  they can choose another kroger store and transfer over to that store.  i know this because it happen in my store, a couple of years ago.

YOur going to be seeing alot more close too. I visit central mississippi quite often around the Jackson area. In that division its the Delta Division and they aquirred the Brookshire(old Albertson's) stores. I count at least 5 stores all within 5-6 miles of each other. SOme only right down the street from previously newly built Kroger stores. I lived in that area around Brandon for many years and waited just for them to build closer by my home. Now that I moved, they're all over the place down there.

Now you see why Kroger squeezes the he!! out of some of its employees or freezes hiring.
