Part-time work outside of Kroger?

What is the criterion that Kroger uses for deciding who you can work for while you work for them? I contacted the union and they told me that there is no federal law that says you cannot work for whoever you choose - it is just Kroger law.

Are all grocery chains considered competition? can you work for grocery chains outside of the grocery department? What would they consider a non-fireable position?

Now I can not find the exact policy or procedure but this is what I can tell you from 20 plus years with Kroger and 35 years in retail.  Most any company that wants you as full time will have a stipulation that you have to be available with no restrictions and available to work any time. Now as far as working another job? Most companies will work with it people and let them work another job but NOT WITH THEIR COMPATITION. I work in the meat department and if I want to get another part time job I can but if it is with Wal-mart, Target, or any of the other grocery store around here , then they can terminate me. Now most do not consider working at a convenience store as competition but to work in any other grocery store or fields out side of your department specialty ( floral , meat, seafood ....... )  then they can make you choose between quitting there or termination.
Just do not be stupid about it. We has night stockers that would get off work and go to Wal-mart to work and still have a kroger shirt on. And also had a lady that worked over night customer service at Wal mart and would come to work at Kroger and still have a Walmart vest on from time to time until management would show up at the store.

not sure how it is in other divisions, but in ours we have identical uniforms as walmart.  When we shop at walmart (although they'd want to believe we wouldn't!)  we often get asked questions.  The fun thing to do is be rude to walmart customers and wonder if they'll turn you (or someone else in!).  it's not my fault I have the same uniform!

What has kroger taken from walmart?

*uniforms

*plastic shelf strips

*and the one thing walmart doesn't use, key retailing!!!!  hello! there's a reason they don't use it, it doesn't work.  hurr durr

a coworker of mine works another job and our store is working around his schedule and actually giving him more hours than he asked for, every weekend off and only 1 or 2 evening shifts (thru the week, whoopty-doo).  Now I also have another job, but I know as soon as I try to get weekends off I will get my hours cut and be working ALL late shifts.  (I have seniority over this person)

i've been with kroger for almost 5 years now, and at one time i had 3 other jobs besides kroger that i worked for, and they didn't say anything to me.  right now i have 2 other jobs besides kroger and the yare fine with that.  that 3 job was the u.s. census and that job required alot of hours and work.  but it was fun

could someone work in another grocery store as long as it wasn't walmart?  i'm really curious about getting another grocery store position to see if the grass is greener on the other side (i have my beliefs that it IS greener)  but not sure how to go about doing it

Your answer is No. Kroger will not permit any of its employees working for any or its competition. Now it a could all depend on your store director also. I have know a few that has left this happen as long as the employee understood that kroger had to come first and depended on the position you had with the competition. But understand this. They can call you to the office at any time. and give you an ultimatum of quitting right then and there.

well I take it in the ass at kroger, so I don't think I'd go for that position at our competition...preferably something a little better:)  j/k
