giving someone else the job...

if there were potentially a position availiable within your department (such as say, fruit cutter in within the produce department or maybe working with cakes within the deli department)  how do you go about getting the job and what are your rights if you had asked for the job but they gave it to someone else, equally capable of doing it?

Would you have to put the request in writing or can you simply use a verbal request?

Put the request in the form of a written request and send it to your department manager. store director, HR and your union rep.

yes, always do everything in writing, and make copies, because they like to "loose" paper work.

i can see that happening.  so would I need to have someone sign it as a witness that they actually received the letter/request?  I can see my store saying "oh, you never gave us a paper, what paper?"   Or would it be safe enough to send copies to both the store and to the union rep so that they know about it?

I guess I could take a picture of me giving it to our manager then there's proof!

I've thought about going from Front End to HR, but I'm not sure of the prerequisites. I've work at my store for 2 1/2 years and I have a fairly good knowledge of the staff I work with.
