My Experience at Kroger

If it wasn't for some of the people I work with, I probably would have been searching for a new job elsewhere by now. I generally like my job because most of my coworkers are likeable. With that said, after nearly 2 1/2 years of service, I've started to become aware that I don't like it as much as I used to.

August of this year, my store was playing host to a major corporate event. The new VP was being introduced. Our store was thrown into overdrive getting the place primped and coiffed for the event. Many employees, myself included, were pulling overtime (from what I heard some were working around 80 hrs!) The three days leading up to the event, I was (voluntarily) assigned to clean various sections of the store. It involved me getting on hands and knees, cleaning. The day of the event, I truely felt worthless. Upon finishing my shift, I went to the breakroom to retrieve my personal items and found leftover doughnuts. I was insulted that after busting our rumps, all we got from the corporate worms were scraps.

I consider myself the powerhouse of the front-end, I do about everything except run the Service Desk/Office. I do cash/bag/uscan work, without complaint, even if it involves plunging toilets (which I've done several times). However, I don't like how my super does things, she rushes breaks as early as possible, and my schedule is often all over the shift field (I will be working all 3 shifts this week, 10pm-6am tonight, returning to work at 4pm). I do not mind covering shifts, but if I decide to make plans outside work, my super tries to get me to adjust them. (I was hoping to have the 21st-24th off while a friend was coming from out of town, will be working the 21st.) I don't mind that I'm asked to do 6 days, but if I decide to get some personal time, I feel like deserve it given what I put in.

yeah, i been there.things like, any time management felt like throwing a bone to the workers, and having a employee appriciation lunch, the cheep bastards pulled pizzas out of the freezer, and had us in the kitchen cook them, only to not get any outselves, because inbetween doing that and our regular work, we bnever got time to go back there
some big wig would come in, and we would have to cook up a lunch for him, his dozen or so flunkies, management, and after that go clean up after them.
and they say slavery is dead.

Slavery is not hard to find. Look at any Kroger management  ( store level) that is on a salery.

ah corporate worms, i've been using this term for many years now (not sure where I picked it up) but I keep insisting to my fellow employees that they are indeed worms and nothing else.  They don't have a clue!  Ask them a question about something and the response is always "we'll have to get back to you on that"  Corporate worms are just someone who kissed the right ass the right number of times and got to where they are now. they aren't any better than you or me, so to their "scraps" I say throw it in their face

They won't listen to us until we hit them with a lawsuit or go to the media anyway. We have to get customers to complain on our behalf in order to get something actually done!

PSFrontEnd i totally understand how you feel....i have been with this compnay for 10 years..i have worked under 3 different unit managers...these last 4 years have been the worst of the 10....i am their main bookkeeper...i do customer care...run a register...you name it on the frontend and i do it..run like a dog all day on my shift...when management ask me to help in other areas like help hang tags on sat. night i do it..when the receiver takes her vacation i cover that as well...when she calls out i help them cover it..always there to help when they ask me...did they ever think that i have a life outside of that place?? up until now recently i am considering not helpin them out because i get no thank you...we apppreciate all you do....shining stars..nothing justa hateful attitude from them..hateful smart mouth from the scanrite chic....which is the powerful one in our store....ii jsut don't understand why they treat the key people so bad....although we do have 2 wonderful co-managers in our store..if we could clone them throughout the company i think it would be better than what is now...we all know that the higher-ups are so above us...it would be nice to be recognized for what you do..but sorry to say in this ompnay..NOT GONNA HAPPEN....and who do you talk to about this??? no one because if you do then there will be reprecussions from your managers....now that is SAD....
