I have not worked at Kroger but my dad has for more than 30 years. It breaks my heart to see my dads spirit absolutely shattered because of how poorly Kroger treats their loyal employees. He has always been a really good manager. He would go in on his days off all the time to help out if his store was behind on certain things. Hes A very kind, respectful, hard-working person and has always treated the employees and customers with respect (even if the customers are rude). His store specifically is always on top of things and even doing pretty well considering the circumstances of COVID-19. But what is really frustrating to see is the unrealistic expectations put on managers and district managers(especially during an economy altering event such as the pandemic). My dad believes that Kroger is making things unreasonable to have a reason to fire him so they can hire A younger manager that they dont have to pay near as much (because my dad has earned many raises for his store doing well). He says that he has seen it happen to other managers several times throughout his years at Kroger. This is why Kroger is a miserable place to work. my dad is so ready to get out of Kroger that hes willing to take the risk in looking at a completely different career, rather than spending his last five years till retirement working at Kroger. I can tell that he doesnt feel like he can take another five years. I feel horrible for him.
Also, I forgot to mention that my dad has been in the military for 30 years part time As well. He has been deployed twice and every time he returned after a year of being deployed there was always a chance that Kroger wasnt going to be willing to give his original position back to him. my mom feared that he would come back and not even have a job when he came back to civilian life. So to sum it up, Kroger has grown into a terrible company that no longer prides itself on good morals, but rather the sole desire to make money at ANY cost. I do understand that thats how most things are nowadays but Kroger took a serious nose dive really really quick. When I was little I used to think it was a company that took pride in its community and workers like my dad desperately try to do (thats why I wanted to work there at one point) but seeing what it did to my dad makes me sick.
I do understand that my point of view may be considered biased, but if I didnt believe there was a serious issue I wouldnt be ranting here on my dads behalf.
Kroger is horrible still ten years later I had worked as frontend utility clerk and they expect tht position to do everything when they have a new job to add guess what matinance gets it excuse my spelling I also remember one time I went into work and a few hours into my shift I started to feel sick ended up throwing up in the bathroom told my boss about it and was told to stick it out bc they didn't have anyone tht could come in Im in my mid 20s and and pretty much all my coworkers in my department are all old farts and one guy on disability who was lazy and barely did his job so no one could /would come in I tried to stick it out but couldnt I was just to sick so I told my boss I cant I have to go and then get told that Im gonna get an absence for it an absense for what being sick its not my fault tht I was sick could barely walk around the store which was a main part of my job so I said **** it and left barely made the walk home and threw up as soon as I walked through the door turns out I had food poisoning but yet but lucky for one Guy tht didnt last long in my department he got sick was able to go home without getting an absense bc I covered it and Thts the only reason he didnt get one For that reason sure he would of if I hadnt covered also most of the workers are idiots and there be like a few drops of milk on the floor or something and I get called all the way to one end of the store stoping what I needed to get done which is a **** load of stuff bc someone cant take a paper towel and wipe it I get its my job but come on its a few drops not a whole gallon and between my duties spills sweeps bathroom etc and every other week getting something added to the list it was just impossible and stressful too much **** to do in such little time and then to get bitched at when I had enough of being a front end utility clerk I asked to get transferred to stocking bc the holiday season was coming up and figured what perfect timing they will need more stockers was told that yes we can do that we are gonna need stockers and figured they would start trying to hire someone to replace me at tht position so I could transfer to the one I wanted but no they didnt do jack **** about it hell The first time I asked before the last one I talked to a hr manager that said i Needed to do this and tht to become a stocker and come to find out months later tht he just went up to another employee and started making the moves right away even though I asked him and this other worker that didnt even ask I had enough so I quit hell I was one of there best matinance workers they still havent replaced me four months later so best decision of my life and a side note I wish I knew the union was optional I was pretty much lead on tht I had to so those *******s got a lot of my money from my paychecks it sucks but I think If I quit my job and the union they legaly should have to give me my money they stole but whatever just bull**** and I hope Amazon new grocery thing and Walmart put them out of buissne bc these retards are ****in god awful employers
Yes they do southern Illinois division especially west Frankfort is one of the worse they only care about management salary bonuses pay and perks screw the regular employees they have so few to help the customers with service and well general customer courtesy the customers notice the cut backs its sad and stressful in that ****ty store employees look really bummed everyone except the high paid managers its a depressing store needs more employees that are treated better than **** slaves
you are so right , got new president about a month ago ,it has got to where one person {not robot} does 2 to 3 jobs which now the store and the workers suffer bad .the morale is waaayyy down .workers are getting worn out ,sick , etc. But what do you do . call union[ lmao ] Tried that . I to have been with company 12 years , but it don't mean a thing .
I've been in retail over ten years with Kroger being my most recent job. They are understaffed and underpaid and the lazy workers abound here. Most good workers and managers move on as I did. And to the person who said all jobs suck, yeah they do so I chose to work where they pay a living wage instead of the sh*t they call a pay around here. Seriously, Wal-Mart and HEB pay and treat you better. Please be good to yourselves and find a better place to be.(that would be just bout anywhere but Kroger)
I also been with Krogers around 12 years. The first years where good But then they took away holiday pay, like Easter, Halloween, etc. Unless its changed you work a 9 hour day , an hour is for lunch and two 15 minute breaks . That was in tenn . Texas krogers does not do that .You get 30 minutes for the whole day, that sucks because we have to eat at the store or don't eat until you clock out . They have cut back on hours ,people ,repairs ,etc . We the people are treated like computers . Well I could go on and on but what it boils down to is KROGERS SUCKS .
I've been employed about 7 months and the micro management and inconsistency between managers is my biggest complaint. I worked 30 years with the federal government and I'm not use to the micro management concept of the inconsistency. I doubt I'll be with Kroger much longer.
once upon a time, kroger did not suck. when i started working for kroger, over 12 years ago, it was a good place to work. sure, tere were problems, like any job. but you could be proad to work for kroger. you did your job well, you were treated well. now, kroger sucks big time. this is my opinion as to what happened. i started noticing changes, right after 9-11. kroger like so many companies, r panicked about a possible ressesion, actually HELPING start the ressesion, buy cutting people big time. customer service suffered. then, came cost cutting, and store's expense. repairs were no longer getting done. my store went to hell.sales slipped now, instead of loking in at what caused sales to drop, poor staffing, no people to provide customer service kroger brass looked outward, and brought in "experts" the same idiots, that are now runing the company. kroger is dinking the coolaid, that remodel the stores to look like other grocery chains, spend tons of money retaining their poeple on new, untested ways of doing things, and when it doesn't work, it must be the workers fauly, buy new equipment, that have no effect on a customers shoping experience, or help make work eaiser. basically, kroger changed everyting that worked, into stuf that diddn't, and if you question it, your gone. kroger lost a lot of vetern managers, supervisors, and workers to these new programs, and now there just arn't enough strong people left to hold things together, espicially since stores now run on s skelaton crew. instead of looking at what started this trend, kroger continues down a fast track of destruction, refusing to admit, they made a mistake, then made it worse with more mistakes. must be the workers fault, cut them replace them. and the circle goes on and on... just my opinion. but then, im one of those vets that got cut, maybe i'm just bitter

Well your spelling and sentence structure sucks ass but everything you said here I agree with.
I was in management at Kroger. They love people like you who believe the tripe they sell you. It means they can continue to offer a job with minimal pay and benefits, dress it up and call it something it isn't, so that they can make a bigger bonus. Congrats on the low standards you set for yourself. I guess that makes them easier to meet, huh?
You dont sound like a real working-class person. If you are, youre a boot licker, and the bourgeoisie loves idiots like you. Blaming the poor when the entire system is stacked against us workers is disgusting. You are not better than the restaurant of us just because you suck up to the corporate power structure. Get some self worth and stop sniveling for scraps.
I do work at a Kroger. I've been there for five years. I work in the bakery. I've been late to work twice in 5 years, and missed a day because I went to the E.R. of a local hospital.
I clock in and out for my breaks and lunch. I work 40 hours a week, and I make a great wage for a mere high school graduate. What don't I do? I don't fuss and moan about every little thing (and there are lots of little things I could fuss and moan about if I wanted to do so). I do my job and keep my complaints to myself. In return, Kroger pays me more than I'm worth ... and matches the first 7% of my 401(k) contribution. I have great insurance, two weeks paid vacation and two paid personal days every year. Soon I'll have three weeks paid vacation and three paid personal days every year. Kroger even paid me bereavement pay (three full days' pay) when I went out of state for a family member's funeral recently. I love my coworkers and managers, and they have the decency to at least pretend that they like me (and if they're pretending, I don't really care ... I get the same satisfaction whether they're feelings are genuine or fake).
It's a wicked and corrupt society when everyone thinks they're entitled to much more than they're getting. So many folks think it's some sort of honor to their employer to have them as an employee, and think that they should be compensated accordingly. If you want more money and more benefits, work hard and keep your little snowflake issues to yourself. The more you whine, the longer it will take you to move out of your low wage position to one with a higher wage.
I have worked for the company for 2 years and the store management really cares about their employees. I am very happy and not frustrated with the company.
LOL! So, you have a good hourly payrate and enough hours to give you and your family a comfortable life? Not buying it. : D

I have a degree in english literature,as well as 3 tech degrees yet they insist on keeping me as a courtesy clerk(aka bagger)
There's a reason why you were still a bagger at the time of this post - if your long rambling incoherent post full of major spelling mistakes, bad grammar and missing punctuation, is anything to go by, then you're a loser with zero life skills and an overinflated ego and expectation on what your deserve.
English lit and 3 tech degrees, and you post that appalling insult to our eyes? Give me a break, my dog can put together a better post - and he's been dead for years...
It may well be that you are even be under-qualified as bagger and I'd hate to imagine how badly you do that job...
Sheesh, stop whining about life and grow a pair - you come across as a whining pathetic little cry-baby who expects the world to owe them a living.
WHAT THE HELL AND WHO IN THE HELL ARE YOU! YOU ARE PROBABLY THE ONE WHO HAS NEVER WORKED HARD A DAY IN YOUR ENTIRE PISSY LIFE! YOU COME ACROSS AS THE ASSHAT THAT YOUR POST INDICATES YOU ARE.
And what the Hell and who in the Hell are you to judge somebody so rudely! What an Asshat YOU are! You are the one who has probably never really worked hard at a job.
I worked for Krogers for 5 months in the deli. I can tell you the pay is low and the management is poor to say the very best. No dont work for them! You will be unhappy and frustrated with the company.
Guten tag! I have been interested in working at Kroger, but, all I can see is sub-par attitudes about it. Could someone please explain to me what and why Kroger is an unprofitable place to work? also, I'd appreciate a decent and honest answer to my question.
I worked full time at Kroger from July 1969, till my retirement in January of 2012. Use to be a family sustaing, job. Good money great benefits. Blue Cross, 6 weeks vacation, pensions. They have dumbed down the management, and standards. Columbus Division, Zone 1, Ohio Valley.

Just lost my job with Kroger, they had me come in one day last week then nothing else for the remainder, this week I go in on Sunday night I was overnight stock crew and when I clocked in the system allowed the ring in but at the end of the five hours I was supposedly scheduled to work I go to clock out and the system throws an error message employee schedule not found.
I go and get the department head who then tells me I was not actually in the system as in on schedule so I worked for five hours without being on the clock.
The next day I called to see if I was scheduled at all an the customer service girl tells me that I'd been let go.
This company is the most unprofessional joke I've ever worked for, they didn't even have the decency to tell me that my posted schedule wasn't valid anymore.
I have been with kroger for 5 years. my seafood manager retired this past March and I took her position with only basic ass training (love and miss her to death non the less). I get yelled at and written up for the first time ever for not doing risidual scan/lows and holes...something that was never explained to me...so I just scan and hit enter (still don't know or care what I'm doing. Was never told to do orders under item review...have only ever been taught to do it under ISO ordering. It's getting ridiculious. I was told our Meat coordinator would come in and work with me for about 3 days....that was over 2 months ago....I give up and I'm sick of going home frustrated as hell.
This is B.S. my manger knows that I have a heart condition. Today I went in at 4pm to 12am. I closed during that time. I did the lot today and they asked me to go back outside to do more lots. Then after a while I came back in and bag and the manger is saying that I'm slow. They want me to work at a face pace. I was like there are other people that are slower than me. Tonight I saw a new guy that was trying put like 16 toilet papers in a bag. The manger says "No sorry that won't fit in there." I my mind I was like lol. Come on you can't fit that much toilet paper in there. Then when 8:00pm hits I went to do the trash and I finished empty it and everything. One of the cashier told me to take it to fuel and I did. Then after the fuel I went to do more lots all by myself tonight. The lot was full and no one is their to help me. Then the manger came out and asked me to pick up the pace. I was like "how can you pick up the pace with a heart condition?" So I was outside all by myself the whole night from 9 to 11:30 pm. After I go in I finished my front duties and grab a coke and went home I mean how can anyone or anybody finished the lot with that many carts within the hour with a low paycheck. Now its 1:14 am I haven't shower or anything yet. My back hurts. I got to work tomorrow from 1-9pm So B.S. and next week they only give me 3 days schedule. So is that a sign of me being close to fired. I worked and you don't appericate me. I was like wtf. Today was fine without the manger there, the 2 supervisor they appreciate me today. I was glad for them. Man I swear people are some times full of it.
