I tell you folks, that company makes my skin crawl.  I should have known it was trouble from the start.  The HR woman at my store (Miamisburg, OH), is a vacuous idiot.  The hiring process took me a month because of her incompetence.  She lied, didn't call when she said she would, and apparently confused me with another applicant.  When I finally was hired, she presided over an atrocious new employee orientation which consisted in reading her cue cards covered with company platitudes and showing inane videos about the brilliance and foresight of Barney Kroger.  It is, I confess, possible that this orientation is the company standard, but if that is the case, what does that say about the company?

Still, what I find truly loathsome about the company is the indoctrination process that they want to put new employees through.  I was constantly inundated with what we might call pro-Kroger "propaganda".  Dr. Goebbels would have been proud.  Fortunately, with school starting in a few weeks, I have an out.  I like the money, and I confess not all of my experiences have been bad, but leaping at the beck and call of the entitled land-whales and soccer moms that comprise the majority of Kroger's clientele is work worth a hell of a lot more than $8.10 an hour.

Kroger, in (insert store # here) is understaffed, mistreated, and underfunded. Outdated equipment combined with lackluster management/employee Interactions equals a company that, on a whole, doesn't give a **** about anything but money. I will do anything within my power to end this company. I worked for kroger for five years and have come to the conclusion that the company itself is unamerican. Take the social media policy for example, one could argue that social media is an extension of your guaranteed freedom of speech. Furthermore firing an employee for such an offense is the same as if a child tells on there sibling for calling them a "butthead". I hope you guys read this in upper management. Your days of collecting 1000%-10000% of a normal employee's pay rate is almost over. I will make sure to find you, and return every penny to the shareholder's that deserve it you greedy pigs.

Signed, Vestigious

Kroger 346 Houston is by far the worst I have seen as far as management Bull **** I have worked/transferred from/to several locations and it just gets worse. Lack of communication is main issue, instead of coming to the person they have issues with they tell one associate to tell another till it eventually gets to proper person a day late and a dollar short as the saying goes. WTF if it's that important wouldn't logic dictate you talk to the person that it involves? Another BIGGER issue at our location is discrimination and the creation of a hostile work environment that upper management actually our store manager feeds with turning her blind eye to any and all issues in this regard. The " you must of misunderstood is the almighty catch phrase" used here. If offered a job at this store just say Hell NO and block their number from your phone!!!

It is a lousy last-resort place to work. The pay is bottom of the barrel and the employees at my store act as though they have been released from prison. It is easy to get on there, but it is clearly a last resort for people who can not get a job anywhere else. I do have other options, thank God, and I will be saying farewell to the crap soon.

I agree with you 100 percent. I have worked for Kroger's for 7 years now. I was head of stock in almost every department in the store. I would run the dairy and frozen trucks everyday by myself and the disrespect from management is ridiculious . 2 years ago I was being over worked and they refused to get me any help I was trying to unload a grocery truck by myself and a misstaked pallet pinned me against the trailor wall and shatters my foot. After 6 months of pain and suffering I was able to return to work the manager striped me of my title and made me cashier even though I was cleared by my doctor to return to my department. So I called the union and they didn't help me so now I'm stuck doing a job I hate and have to suffer from the affects of the injury.

I worked at Kroger for all of two weeks.

First off, I was put to work in the Starbucks. The hiring manager lied and told me that I would like the job because I said I liked a job where I could keep my hands busy (since my last job was dismally boring and I spent a majority of my shifts roaming the store and straightening merchandise on the shelves). The hiring manager was a LIAR, but we'll get to that later. Well, I worked at the Kroger in The Woodlands, Texas, but the area's training store was in a neighboring town. As you all know, they tricked everyone into joining the Union, and I had to call the next day and demand the Union worker take me off his list, as I didn't want to join it. Unions are hardly necessary in this day and age.

Then the next day, we were put on the floor for training. However, the Willis store didn't have a Starbucks, so what did they do with me? They stuck me with a regular cashier and expected him to teach me something that would be relevant to a job with no similarities (the Starbucks POS system has nothing in common with a normal retailers POS, considering they sell made-to-order individual cups of coffee and not products with an actual barcode or weighted items). So the poor cashier spent a majority of his downtime glancing at me awkwardly and saying "...so..." because he had no idea what to teach me. And he shouldn't; my future position had nothing to do with his. So I basically wasted five hours, when they could have easily sent me to my store for training that was actually relevant. They also didn't have any Starbucks computer modules, so what did they make me do? Take all the modules for the bakery and meat market. I learned about equipment I would hardly ever even glimpse, much less have to operate.

Then, when I actually got into the Starbucks...I found out the hiring manager was a ****ing liar. The place was "busy" for a short amount of time, in the morning rush when people are coming to get their morning coffee on the way to work. Then it slows down, a LOT. You might be able to count the number of customers you service in an hour on your hands. And at a Starbucks, when there's no customers, there's not much else to do. If the dishes are clean, you don't need to brew any fresh pots of drip coffee, the countertops are clean, and you don't need to grab any supplies from the back, you basically have **** all to do. And considering how you don't need new supplies often, the countertops and dishes stay clean when you have few customers, and the drip brew only needs to be freshly brewed every few hours, you're left standing there most of the time. Well, the store manager didn't like me standing there and not smiling, despite the fact that there was absolutely no chores or tasks for me to accomplish, and no customers around for me to smile at, and if a customer happened to wander near the Starbucks, I would put on a smile until they walked away. She told me that if she caught me not smiling and not keeping busy again, she would "ask me to leave and not come back." Oookay.

So the next day, I tried to not get fired. I kept at least a small, content smile on my face at all times, even when I was facing the wall. And if I had nothing to do, I feigned busyness by arranging the straws, or wiping down already clean countertops. And I'm pretty sure I did what she wanted me to do - I smiled at all times, and kept as busy as I could. But then, the next day, in the ****ing MIDDLE OF MY SHIFT, she pulled me aside and said "this isn't going to work out." She told me to clock out, and demanded back my hat, nametag, and apron. Which, who the **** does that? This is the first time I've heard of an employer taking a fired employees nametag. But anyway, this was the summer after I graduated high school, so I didn't have a car at the time, so I had to call and wait for my mother (who was in the middle of doing something) to come and get me hours before expected. I worked there two weeks

Not to mention, the Starbucks department manager was a ****ing twit. She never actually taught me how to make drinks, assuming that I had to have a total mastery of the POS system and putting the right acronyms on the cups before she would teach me to make even a simple latte. Second of all, at one point, every time I kept turning to the sink to wash dishes, a new customer would come to the counter, and I wouldn't see them because I was turned in the opposite direction. So after putting in one customer's order, I stood there for a few moments, waiting for a little bit before turning to the dishes. And she snapped at me "get your hands out of your pockets, get those dishes, and start washing them." I probably was standing there for all of fifteen seconds. And I was waiting because I was tired of constantly having to dry my hands and turn back around every time a customer came up, so I wanted to wait a little bit before starting to wash the dishes. And she had to bitch at me about it again later on, instead of letting it go or at least being a bit nicer about reminding me that things had to be done. Third of all, a customer came to her with a pastry he had bought (I think it was some kind of coffee cake) and complained that there was a hair in it. It was a blonde hair, and the manager, who is pretty obviously a ****ing blonde, said that it couldn't have been the hair of anyone at the Starbucks, because none of them were blonde. I don't know how she was under the impression that her hair was brunette or red, but the color of the hair on the cake obviously matched her hair color. And fourth, a lady later came up to the counter and asked her what drink she recommended. And this old hag, making a face that I can only describe as a stupid cow's face, said "I don't know, I don't drink coffee." Which, do you know how ****ing stupid it sounds for someone who works at a STARBUCKS to nto know what to recommend a customer because they DON'T CONSUME THE PRODUCT THEY ARE SELLING? And she didn't even sound a little embarrassed or realize the stupidity. Like, "you know what? I actually don't drink coffee, so I can't help you. I know it's weird, sorry." And also didn't ask ME, despite the fact that I was an avid Starbucks drinker at the time (I no longer am, but that's a long story that has little to do with this horrible experience) and could have given a personal favorite as a suggestion.

They also pay drastically low, and lie to their employees. They bragged about how it was great to be a Kroger bagger, because you could accept tips. They claimed that WalMart and HEB employees could get fired for accepting tips. I later went on to work at HEB, and it's the best place I've worked. And right from my day of hire, I was allowed to accept tips as a bagger or a cashier. I currently work at WalMart, so I will admit that we aren't allowed to take tips here. But they still lied about HEB.

All in all, Kroger is a **** place, because almost none of this had to do with Starbucks. I don't have a problem with the way Starbucks treats their employees (one of the few aspects of their business I actually don't have a problem with). I probably wouldn't have had these problems if I worked at an individual, standalone Starbucks.

I work in Conway, AR. There are two stores, I hear both are bad.

But hey! We're unionized! For only $8 a week you have a guy hobble into the store, ask those not in the union to apply to be in it, and fight tooth-and-nail so that us employees are entitled to ....

$8 and no sick time.

I've been working at my store 2+ years. I make minimum wage. I don't make a penny over minimum wage, because when our state decided to bump the amount up to $8.... well, Kroger thought it'd be just fine to erase any raises anyone had gotten had they been making less than $8. That means I lost a precious $0.20 for my servitude and a nice lady I work with who has been there for 5+ years is now finally making $8!!! THANKS KROGERS!!!!!

Aside from not being staffed so that people can take lunches (wage theft, btw), when someone calls in sick there is no scramble to find anyone to come in. "Have you called anyone?" is met with just a stern "no". I guess paying time and a half would ruin Krogers, but leaving things undone so our friendly neighborhood roaches can come in and snack is just fine....

Not enough gloves to do our job? Not like that's new.
Schedule posted on Saturday around noon, so no time to plan with family. (Well, he posts a fraudulent one on Friday that he alters so manager doesn't get 'yelled' at by union)
Do an amazing job? You won't see a cent or a word of thanks.
Mess up? You're going to be hearing about it from multiple people.

Just one question....

If I get fired, I walk across the street to McDonalds and immediately make the minimum. What reason do I have anymore to work hard? There is no benefit to staying and no negatives to getting canned....

Did Kroger never suck before?  As far as I'm concerned, it always has.  The store's standards are too professional and strict.  The managers and heads look very 1950s and service sucks.  If there was a time that Kroger did not suck, tell me.  No wonder there are so many negative threads and posts on this site.

I quit maintenance too. The have a bunch of young gun DMS' running it whom have no clue about refrigeration & are in other to make a name for themselves. Thwireless obsession with quantity of calls completed & keeping the call rate down  causes the storesame to not be properly serviced. They are reactive not proactive.

God forbid if you point out something not being done right & you mention in good faith on how it should be done. I have never experienced so much egotistical, rude, sarcastic manager in my whole career.

It would do them well to clean house & hire those who.know what they are doing.

The Kroger's at Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville, Alabama, is the absolute worst store I have visited. The employees are arrogant and rude and lack any knowledge about the products they stock. The facility is fraying and gray. The prices are basically higher than any of the competition's prices, except for the very few weekly specials. I called the Kroger's Customer Service Number (866-221-4141) and, after waiting over ten minutes, spoke to someone who was unintelligible. I requested that she speak slower and had the feeling I had interrupted her nap. It was all a horrible experience.

This is B.S. my manger knows that I have a heart condition. Today I went in at 4pm to 12am. I closed during that time. I did the lot today and they asked me to go back outside to do more lots. Then after a while I came back in and bag and the manger is saying that I'm slow. They want me to work at a face pace. I was like there are other people that are slower than me. Tonight I saw a new guy that was trying put like 16 toilet papers in a bag. The manger says "No sorry that won't fit in there." I my mind I was like lol. Come on you can't fit that much toilet paper in there. Then when 8:00pm hits I went to do the trash and I finished empty it and everything. One of the cashier told me to take it to fuel and I did. Then after the fuel I went to do more lots all by myself tonight. The lot was full and no one is their to help me. Then the manger came out and asked me to pick up the pace. I was like "how can you pick up the pace with a heart condition?" So I was outside all by myself the whole night from 9 to 11:30 pm. After I go in I finished my front duties and grab a coke and went home I mean how can anyone or anybody finished the lot with that many carts within the hour with a low paycheck. Now its 1:14 am I haven't shower or anything yet. My back hurts. I got to work tomorrow from 1-9pm So B.S. and next week they only give me 3 days schedule. So is that a sign of me being close to fired. I worked and you don't appericate me. I was like wtf. Today was fine without the manger there, the 2 supervisor they appreciate me today. I was glad for them. Man I swear people are some times full of it.

I have been with kroger for 5 years. my seafood manager retired this past March and I took her position with only basic ass training (love and miss her to death non the less). I get yelled at and written up for the first time ever for not doing risidual scan/lows and holes...something that was never explained to me...so I just scan and hit enter (still don't know or care what I'm doing. Was never told to do orders under item review...have only ever been taught to do it under ISO ordering. It's getting ridiculious. I was told our Meat coordinator would come in and work with me for about 3 days....that was over 2 months ago....I give up and I'm sick of going home frustrated as hell.

Just lost my job with Kroger, they had me come in one day last week then nothing else for the remainder, this week I go in on Sunday night I was overnight stock crew and when I clocked in the system allowed the ring in but at the end of the five hours I was supposedly scheduled to work I go to clock out and the system throws an error message employee schedule not found.

I go and get the department head who then tells me I was not actually in the system as in on schedule so I worked for five hours without being on the clock.

The next day I called to see if I was scheduled at all an the customer service girl tells me that I'd been let go.

This company is the most unprofessional joke I've ever worked for, they didn't even have the decency to tell me that my posted schedule wasn't valid anymore.

There's a reason why you were still a bagger at the time of this post - if your long rambling incoherent post full of major spelling mistakes, bad grammar and missing punctuation, is anything to go by, then you're a loser with zero life skills and an overinflated ego and expectation on what your deserve.

English lit and 3 tech degrees, and you post that appalling insult to our eyes? Give me a break, my dog can put together a better post - and he's been dead for years...

It may well be that you are even be under-qualified as bagger and I'd hate to imagine how badly you do that job...

I do work at a Kroger.  I've been there for five years.  I work in the bakery.  I've been late to work twice in 5 years, and missed a day because I went to the E.R. of a local hospital.

I clock in and out for my breaks and lunch.  I work 40 hours a week, and I make a great wage for a mere high school graduate.  What don't I do?  I don't fuss and moan about every little thing (and there are lots of little things I could fuss and moan about if I wanted to do so).  I do my job and keep my complaints to myself.  In return, Kroger pays me more than I'm worth ... and matches the first 7% of my 401(k) contribution.  I have great insurance, two weeks paid vacation and two paid personal days every year.  Soon I'll have three weeks paid vacation and three paid personal days every year.  Kroger even paid me bereavement pay (three full days' pay) when I went out of state for a family member's funeral recently.  I love my coworkers and managers, and they have the decency to at least pretend that they like me (and if they're pretending, I don't really care ... I get the same satisfaction whether they're feelings are genuine or fake).

It's a wicked and corrupt society when everyone thinks they're entitled to much more than they're getting.  So many folks think it's some sort of honor to their employer to have them as an employee, and think that they should be compensated accordingly.  If you want more money and more benefits, work hard and keep your little snowflake issues to yourself.  The more you whine, the longer it will take you to move out of your low wage position to one with a higher wage.

Medical Benefits are so outrageous in cost I have to work a new 40 hr. job and pay for medical.

Biggest regret of my life was working there.

After 40 years you would think the ****TY union would have guaranteed a retirement medical program.

The UNION is to worried about themselves and their UNEARNED pay to take care of the employees.

You all have to remember though, The UNION does not pay for ****!

Any and ALL benefits and pension money is paid for by Kroger.

Just sayin.
