Can management do this to me?

 I have worked for kroger for going on 2.5 years. I have worked at several diffrent stores and have done very well at all of them. I started off as a deli employee and for about 2.5 years I have been a chef's assistant. I moved back to my hometown and was transfered to the first store that I ever worked at. I was so excited about it, until my first day working with the chef. Upon arriving this first day- She didn't even say hello, but instead she chewed my *ss out for transfering back. She is constantly critizing me, but its not even constructive critisim. She has turned alot of empoyees against me and basically trying to make my life a living hell. I am constantly harrassed, called names, and gossiped about. One day I had enough and I stood up for myself in a professional way. Well that's when the retaliation began- about 2 weeks ago. She went to upper managment and lied to them about when i take my lunch breaks, she told them i am not a team player, and I don't do anything all day. But the truth is that I bust my *ss for this company, i take my lunches when I am suppose to, and I produce on average 8-10 items a day, while she produces 2 per week. Management believed her. Now they are constanly keeping an eye on me, I even have to fill out production charts and have them signed by a manager and they are scheduling full time when I am in college full time, although i told them up front I am available 32 hrs per week. The chef hardly been there for 4 days. Friday- she was off  Saturday- she left 4 hrs into her shift  Sun-off mon- she left 3 hrs into her shift. I asked to leave eairly on wed, because my doc said that I have staph infection and it's very contagious. I have called in 2 times in life, but they turned it in to a big ordeal.  Where i had to go upstiars and be *ithced out for an hr, when other employees leave for no good reason and don't provide doc notes. I feel like they are A. about to fire me or B. trying to make life hell so I will quit. i am in the union. Do I need to get a rep. involved. I want to stay with the company, but I don't deserve to be treated llike a dog. If i were such a terrible employee wouldn't have someone have said something to me yet, instead of out of the blue?

Sounds to me like you need someone on your side. Remember that working at a grocery store is like high school. There will be people who are out just to get their jollies from making someone elses life a living hell. I'd strait up look at them and tell them the business. You can't let things like this get out of hand or it spirals into the situation you're in now.

You can try talking to your rep and managers about how you think that you are being treated in an unfair manner, but it might just be better to try and work things out on your own first. I always use the "determined stare" and firm voice for things like that but.... that's what I would do.

Keep in mind that some people are just natural-born a-holes and will try to annoy you at every turn. The only thing you can do against that is be the better person or have powerful friends.

Thanks for your reply bag boy. I appericate your advice. I will start by applying it tommorrow. i hate to sound like a whiny *itch, but I don't know what to do in this situation and I have exhausted alot of avenues. Your right about it being like a high shcool. You would think that grown women who are in there 30 plus wouldn't act like mean girls and constantly start drama. I guess I ticked off of the click members just by being there and now they are forming against me to get rid of me. I will try to handle this myself. I just fear that they will find something to use against me to fire me. If I am fired unjustly is there any thing that I can do? Do i still get my insurance?

I wish you the best of luck. If they fire you the union might look into it but i don't know if they would help you or not. From what i've heard they are just a group of lazy butts.

Apply my advice within reason. If all else fails tell them you're going to file harrassment and grieveance claims against them. Cause that's what they are doing if they are making you do more than just what your job calls for.

Hang in there!
Jobs are hard to find and hopefully you will be done with school soon.
when I 1st started I really needed a job for more than one reason and the "GROUP" at the time hated me for just getting the job I prayed every morning before getting out of my car. Finally after some time they leftef me alone. This has been 8 years ago and  I am still working there are a few left and we have our run ins but I know that i do a good job and they can say what they want but I know the truth.
Remember customer 1st! And you are there not to make friends.
I have been to the customer serivice dinner twice which is a great time and still take my breaks and luches by myself.
I always try to have respect for all my co workers and make sure I show respect to all.
Its hard but I know you can do it.

the next time they call you to the 'dog house' to explain yourself, use the Weingarten Right and refuse to discuss anything until you have union representation.  Remember that you do not have to take the union steward if you do not wish/like that particular person.  Remain calm and do not get defensive.  Listen to their complaint and respond to it very calmly and with sound reason.  Do not sign a damn thing they push your way - EVER!  Keep a journal of all the bullcrap that you see but be fair about it.  Push out for your breaks (as everybody should be anyways).   Do your job quitely and just enjoy the side drama they stir up w/o you getting too emotionally and physically involved in it.  When the manager berates you just stare straight at her and say "YES MA'AM" and nothing else that would be construed as defensive.  Talk to your union representative about working in a 'hostile environment'.  Tell everybody of importance at the right time that all you wish is to "come to work happy then work my shift and leave as happy as I was when I arrived.  I do not wish to get involved in any circumstances that are unpleasant."  Leave it at that.  Go ask your store manager is s/he practices the "open door policy".  When s/he says YES then sit down in the office and say "I came to Kroger almost 3 years ago because I believe in the professional decorum that this company represents. I realize that there has been some tension in the not so distant past and I do not wish for it.  I hope that we can amicably overcome this.  I am not perfect and maybe I am part of the problem.  I wish to do my best for the store, the customers, my department and for myself.  Thats all..."  Mind f*u@c%k$s are always fun.  If you need to later on - file a grievance about working under a hostile boss/store.  best of luck to you

my name is carolyn seymour i was fired from kroger . I had a dr. appt and the didnt  care i call union rep but they didnt care now i dont have a job. they lied to me iwant some one to know.
