All I hear about on a daily basis is just numbers, numbers, numbers, and how we are supposed to meet all of these "numbers" or we're either bitched at, written up, or even fired no matter how hard we work.
I tell my dept. head(and I don't think this is an inappropriate question), "Why does this company care about only getting the numbers and less about its employees?"
Then she starts talking down to me in a condescending way, as if I just asked her a really nasty personal question. Then she vehemently starts defending the company, as if they are right and we're the peons and we are the ones who are wrong because we don't churn out the company's "numbers" like we are supposed to.
Makes me question as if she were wearing a wire or whatever...
Just want to know everyone's thoughts on this, because I don't think I asked an inappropriate question, and I don't think her defending the company on its doings is reasonable, considering what we've been put through since this key refailure crap started.
Oh you must work in our Deli. She wants to go into mangement. Keep a eye on her.Never customer service and always uspstairs and of course always something to say to mangement boosting only her self.
Just keep in mind you and she are working at a grocery store. I don't see why people fight so adamantly for half a rung on a ladder they will never reach the top of. I guess my world view is kind of a downer. She wants to advance by kissing butt but at the end of the day she's just working at a grocery store.

Because of the union, kissing ass doesn't really help in any situation. The only way you get promoted to any job outside of management is based upon seniority. Unless the head deli in question has a college degree, its highly unlikely she will make it to management.
My guess is she is more of a "better than everybody else" type and "do as your told and don't ask why". She's probably catching heat from her boss and instead of being up front and honest to you guys is trying to play games.
