Does your store manager reward you all for good results? Ex: Perfect mystery shop, outstanding inventory, or just for the heck of it to let you know they appreciate you? Cook outs, gift certificates....etc...
if a maneger spoke to you in my store, it was to threaten, or complain. praise was not given, because' why should i praise someone for doing their job " a qoate from trish wheeler, store manager, 434
at our store we get gift cards for 100% on mystery and ELMs over 95%. it's just $5 but it's better than nothing. I've been thanked once by a manager and sometimes by employees.
Trish Wheeler needs to realize that without her employees she has no store and she should stop being such a conceded bitch.

I first want to state that I have no idea who trish wheeler is however i am wondering under what context she stated what was said by anonymous #38659. who was she speaking to; what did she say before and after; etc.
my point is that we are all paid a salary to do a job. we accepted or made a contract with kroger to come in and do 8 hours of labor for our daily pay. it amuses me to hear people cry about their work. its part of life man! i hate it as much as the next person does but i know i gotta do it so i always try to make it fun.
doing your job should not require PRAISE. it may get a thank you. when you go the extra distance then you deserve praise. hell anon #38659, you may be the type of worker that comes in and dicks around for 2 hours of your 8 hour shift so here you are giving 75% effort. does that deserve praise? Hell no! You are actually stealing time from the company, your fellow employees and to the customers.
the originator of this tread was asking about "rewarding good results" not just showing up and doing the bare minimum necessity. A lot of employees just don't get that aspect of the equation. They want to be thanked or appriciated yet they talk on the cell phone or sneak in an extra 5 minutes on their break. Us managers know that goes on and who is doing it. Then you want us to give you PRAISE!?! Come on....
One last rant - if you do not want to feel or be treated like a SLAVE then I'll tell you what. Go back to school and get yourself a better education. This time try a little bit harder than what you did previously. Next, change your attitude and outlook on things. This is called work where you get a paycheck for 40 hours of work. Did you not know what you were going to be doing when you took the job? Did all the sudden the managers begin to whip you and chain you down at the ankle during the day? If whoever posted that you are treated like a slave wishes to give specific examples to their blanket statement please do so. Then we can discuss if that is 'slavery" or not.

they eliminated the $5 you did good cards, at my store, and replaced them with dollar ones. no joke. a dollar...
i know trish wheeler.doesn't surprise me at all. whenever we would meet some goal coperate sent down, that was suppossed to get us a employee dinner, we got hot dogs, ccoked by me, kroger potato chips, and big k soda.
couldn't even spring for a pizza
me, i'm a firm beleiver, this nothing wrong, when making your rounds throu the store, saying some nice things to your crew, instead of sneaking by if you don't have a complaint. yeah, it's a job, yeah were suppossed to work, but we are people too, and some possitive feed back goes a long way
We had a discussion about something similar to this at work today about this before I even came home and read this thread.
How many Kroger stores participate in "profit sharing"? I don't think Kroger does it anymore or if anybody on this board is senior enough to remember it, but at the end of the year you received a separate paycheck from Kroger based entirely off of how well the company did that year. It was to the tune of $900-$1,300 I believe, could be more or less depending on how much seniority you had and what you did.
Point being, if you knew that you were going to be seeing direct results of your work, wouldn't you be more enticed to work a lot harder? Of course, this was eliminated I believe during the strike, I guess they needed the money to fuel Dave Dillon's jet.

yea drew - i have received profit sharing before at other companies. it is a great incentive all the way down to the toilet bowl washer.
i suppose kroger does 'profit sharing' to a regard by giving store managers a bonus. they do get a bonus dont they? does anybody know the cut each one can receive.

They get a bonus to the tone of how well they do undercutting the little guy. that's about the extent i know of. The more they **** on the hourlys... the better their bonus becomes.

yeah, they get a bonus, and it is the driving force behind most of the way they manage.
when a manager says to you," higher up said no over time,' that is USSUALLY a flat lie.
what happens is, a store is allouted a certain number of hours PLUS extra, for over time, emergancies, ect. the manager of that store, gets a bonus bassed on how few of those extra hours they use. they use them all, no labor bonus. what bothers me, is the lieing. don't tell me, Oh i hate it too, but My boss says" NO, your boss did NOT say that, you want a bigger bonus. thats fine, but you need to be HONEST and also take the STORE'S needs ahead of a bonus.
managers also get a budget bonus. a amount is given to the store, for controlling costs on repairs, and such. if they go over, they loose that bonus thats why something will go forever before getting fixed, then, out of the blue, 10 things get fixed. bonus time came and went, and now, they have a new amount, which they ussually blow through too quick, and run out of latter.
they also get a bonus bassed on sales, and such
and finally, a amount of money given too them, for 'employee incentives"
this is employee appriciation parties, christmas parties, that kind of stuff. they CANNOT claim the money for themselves, but they CAN, say go cheap on their workers, and hog wild on a dept head party, with themselves included, of coarse.so they can siphon some money there, away from workers, back to themselves, to a point
knowing several former managers, now gone from the company has advantages, on knowing krogers inner workings
now, i truely understand a manager wanting to get a big a bonus as they can, i would. and i understand WHY the bonuses are done they way they are, to encourage a manager to run a tight ship.
the problems i have is
a: upper management has no checks and balences inplace, to keep a manager from running it's store in the ground, to collect a bonus. thats why you got stores with no staff, yet very busy. coperate does not care, long as the money comes in how hard the people are worked
B i hate liars. don't lie to me and say "zone management said no over time" when they diddn't . if you got over time bad enough for zone to care, you got MAJOR over time, not 10 or so hours a week. you want little to no over time to get a bigger bonus. i will respect honesty, over a lie
now, a final word. sometimes, the big bosses DO crawl a store manager about OT. it's not always tyhe boss protecting a bonus. and in the year i have been gone, maybe coperate has gotten worse. BUT when i was with kroger, 8 times out of ten, anything regarding OT, was the boss blowing smoke up your rear. trust me, zone managers, and such do NOT waste their time, contantinlly calling store management about such things, like store management would have you beleive. thats one of krogers biggest problems, is a big gap in communications. you'll here from some super high up plan maker, far more then your own zone, or district managemet
