I was unfairl terminated today for the most rediculous thing after i busted my but for this no caring company, anyone else out there that feels the same way, short hours so they dont have to pay full time and supervisors with personal vandettas against people they dont like but who are doing there job better than others. Isnt that discrimination, you cant fire someone just because you dont like them personally isnt that discrimatingfurious I really needed the job and now they have taken food out of my kids mouth because i opened a soda on break while in line to pay, or was that the real reason. They have not heard the last from me . I was never written up or warned for anything but i get terminated for that and then lied to, saying if i didnt sign a resign letter i wouldnt be able to get a job anywhere else because they would report it on my record, stupid me i fell for it, I didnt know better i have been a stay at home mom for the last 15 years and never really been in the workplace before. Anyone else feel they have been done wrong. Hell i even worked on easter because none of there teenagers wanted to work and i missed easter with my three boys but i never complained. Let me know if anyone else feels the same

I'm very sorry to hear about all this, and I truly hope you get back on your feet soon.....

For all else who have read the above, take heed: DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING an employer shoves in front of you!! This is the second time on this forum I've read about someone being coerced into signing a 'resignation'......thereby KILLING any chance for unemployment.

I am too sorry to hear about this.  Please contact your Union Representative immediately.  Please file a grievance and by all means write in it that you by no means resigned.  Stop what you are doing right now and begin to contact the union and write your letter.  Call the store you work at and ask to speak to the store's union steward. Go to the damned place and walk up to the manager that terminated you and say that you do not intend to resign and hand him/her a letter recinding your resignation.  Of course by all means APPLY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT.  State exactly what happened and make them work hard to try to win not paying you.

how can you get in trouble for opening up a soda while in line to pay?  thats plain out ridiculous

A couple of things:

1. How long did you work for Kroger?  If you are a new hire under 45 days, you won't have access to the union, and they can pretty much get rid of you for anything.

2. I'm not 100% sure on this, but even if you hadn't resigned, you wouldn't have been fired but "suspended indefinitely".  Kroger is dirty when it comes to finding ways to keep from paying out unemployment (ask barada).

If you resign, legally, they cannot say anything bad about you.  I've talked to people I work with who knew a guy caught redhanded shoplifting that worked there in years past who resigned but went on to become a pharmaceutical rep.

If you don't sign it, then of course they can tell any future employers whatever they want.  The easy way around that all depends how long you have worked at Kroger though.  I worked for Cracker Barrel for six months before I worked at the job I held before I got on at Kroger.  I hated it there and once the other job came, I quit without leaving a two week notice around Easter.  I purposefully omit that six months from my resume because I know if I leave that I worked there, I will get a bad report.

Best of luck to you.

To be honest, I would file the grievance. But don't expect anything out of the union. THey have lost so much pull lately they are basically useless. You didn't lose anything from losing a job at kroger. I'll only be there a little while longer myself. I got wrote up last week because I missed a tag on the floor of the deli. My dept manager spends at least an hour and a half each day looking over what I do every day to find something wrong. If they want you gone, there is nothing... let me repeat that.. NOTHING you can do about it.. but wait until they fire you.

Kroger has NO conscience. They don't care about people. They have no INTEGRITY.

So until I find something else.. or I'm fired.. I'll keep my head down and pray that I don't attract anymore attention.

What kills me is how customers are allowed to walk around the store MUNCHING AWAY on un-paid for food from the deli, bakery, etc. ....Far as I'm concerned, that is shop lifting! But oh nooo.....management will lunge behind them to kiss their filthy asssses!!

You shouldn't steal from a store. And lying online isn't going to help you.

Don't eat or drink anything you haven't paid for. Includes samples guys. If they want you gone this is the easiest way to do it.

The "supervisors" are only glorified cashiers. They don't get a pay raise- they get supervisor hours and that's it.

If you as hard working as you say you are talk to your store manager. Let them know that you made a mistake, and you did intend on paying for the item.

This is true but with one exception.  The person in question was in line waiting to pay but decided to open her drink while waiting.  Obviously "purchase prior to consumption" is in play, but you have to look at "intent".

I've known people who worked at the store I work at who have stolen chips and drinks from off the shelf and take them back to the meat shop and not pay for them.  All it takes is a manager walking back there, catching them chowing down, and asking for a receipt and they are gone.  They had no intent on paying.  This person did.

As for the union, it also depends on how much time this person had.  If she was a new hire who wasn't working out, this was probably a reason for the company to let her go before she could get into the union.  It's never been mentioned how long she had worked for Kroger, but its usually 45 days before you are allowed to join the union.

With unemployment, as I said before, Kroger is very shady when it comes to doling out unemployment.  Even if she hadn't signed the letter, Kroger would have likely held that she wasn't fired, but suspended indefinitely.  Of course, if she isn't in the union, it might be a different story alltogether.

I tell customers who eat through my line and hand me the wrappers to never do it again. Although I think it's horrible they terminated you, it just goes to show they hold their employees to a completely different standard than customers, even when we're on our own time as a customer. I do hope you can get your job back. All you have to do is go to the union and have them ask cashiers about customers who do it and kroger never says a word to them. I yelled at a lady the other day because her kids were eating apples that are sold by weight and I made her feel bad about it. Taking a sip of a pop is different, you can still pay for it, unlike weighted apples.

Oboro, I think it's a phrase situation. I think the OP meant supervisor as in management. I think Em meant supervisor as in floor supervisor. I think they just got what they know of as a supervisor wrong.

Em is right in that floor supervisors don't get a pay differential.

The Anon person is right in their "view" of her supervisor was a member of management who got all bent out of shape over a situation that should haven't been even a blimp on the radar.

Just FYI I applied for the management training program at Walmart today.. ///crosses fingers

i think this is pushing the situation a little to the extreme.  i for one have over my life walked into a store and gathered my various items only to open up a bag of chips or package of cookies prior to check-out.  with my son in toe - it even becomes more desirable to do so.  as long as i provide evidence of the item i ate who the heck cares.   am i missing something?

Yeah, I get what SCO is saying about the items that you pay for by the pound. I really do. But I just add on a few cents to cover the cost. But what I don't understand is why they are making such a big deal about it? I would never tell a customer to "never do that again." What the hell are you thinking SCO? What is it that is so bad that you would risk losing a paying customer over a wrapper? I feed my grand baby gummies out of the box while we shop and I can promise you if someone EVER said something like to me I would raise 10 different kinds of hell and send you home crying. Did I mention that I promise that? evileye

Pick your battles. A damn wrapper or adding in a few cents to cover the weighed items is a dumb one and I can promise you Kroger would agree.

I would fight this situation. There is NO way that Kroger can try to fire someone for stealing while standing in line to pay... especially is nothing was said to the person until AFTER they paid for the item in question. If Kroger can't accuse it's customers of stealing (even when the intent is to steal) until they are at the door, the same consideration should be given to its employees. As for the resignation, call your union rep and ask how that can be voided.

I'm sorry your store supervisors suck Em and I can tell you have no idea what a supervisor does besides the ones you know. What a shame, maybe you should become one and show them how to do it right.
