The FES position is such an easy position. At least at my store it is. Really you just make sure everyone up front working registers and bagging get all ther breaks. Also guiding customers to the next available lane. And at my store the FES gets paid a little more every hour. I say go for it, just because it's always nice to move up a little.

because they are.... senior employees, deal with all the crappy customers, are the first people to get asked for help, and fix your mistakes? Yeah, none of that deserves more pay. not at all.
I don't know if i'd be able to justify that kind of stuff without a pay raise... I'll eventually have to give up pushing carts and move onto pushing employees though. I could see myself being an office person later on in life if i stick with kroger but for right now I think it would be best to just keep pushing carts and baging stuff.
if someone like the store manager asks me if i'd like to do it i'd probably say "sure, for a $1 raise."
I know it doesn't excuse them for being snobs.... but that's beside the point.

I work in grocery, you stupid ****s cant figure out how to take care of breaks, schedule, or figure out if the eggs are diseased after 50 calls about eggs being desesed in thailand but its ok for you to get paid more than someone who actually has to do work, i guess thats fair i wish i could stand around in a vest all day looking like a giant douche bag but your right you guys should be the top paid in the whole store with all that work you do

I'm sorry but you work in grocery and have no idea how the front end works and is full of 16-18 yr old kids that are more interested in jerking each other off than actually getting their jobs done. Krogers front end is nothing more than a group of high school kids on some sort of damned field trip. I'm told i'm one of the better employees and all i have to do is do trash and clear carts off the lot at night.
I forgo all my "help" because in the end they just do a halfassed job and i have to redo it anyway. Don't act like you know anything about the front end or their supervisors just because you've seen them work, lack thereof, or know someone who does it. Until you've experianced it first hand you have no say in this conversation what-so-ever. now sit the **** back down.

I worked on the front end for almost 5 years and there's no way I'd ever go back. All those people drove me nuts. The front end is rough but you should try working in one of the service departments like deli, bakery, or meat. In those departments you worry about putting out product and waiting on customers. Front end is just customer service.

Unless you've worked in other departments, you can't say that the front end is the hardest department to work in. Front end people have no clue as to how busy it is in the other departments.

Sundays are the worst days in the deli and they never schedule enough help. I have to laugh at the training videos that show just one customer at the counter. At my store we have to have at least four workers on the counter and that's not always enough to keep a line from forming. Plus there's all the special orders that have to be done.
special orders to make; 250 piece chicken orders to cook; trucks to unload; then the endless sea of kiosk / walk-up customers. i really do not understand why any educated person would spend 15+ minutes waiting at any deli counter for a pound of kahn's deluxe bologna and land-o-lakes american cheese. its beyond my comprehension. when they bitch at me for taking so long i politely tell them that we are "open at 8am each and every day and there is never a wait at that time. and just for you - come at 7:50am and i will make sure that you are served right away <Grin>"

So how much does your store take in for an average week?

We're one of the top 3 stores in our entire division. Sometimes we're #1. Sometimes we're as low as #3. But we are always in the top 3.
F.E.S always get more. Cashiers/Associates get minimum wage and the F.E.S. gets $1-$2 more, due to taking on more responsibility, so I don't know where you live, but that's how it is where I live too, supervisors always get more!!!!!
