What are Kroger's rules regarding the use of smokeless tobacco by employees while on the clock and/or while on Kroger property? My store manager turns a blind eye to this problem and allows a few employees, including a dept. mgr. to chew & spit while on duty. They do this even in our tiny lunch room!
We've had a few characters like that over the years....One guy, a stocker, would carry a little paper coffee cup/spitoon and PLACE IT ON THE SHELF as he stocked product. Had a customer knock it over and nearly on to herself.
The use of smokeless tobacco has only been prohibited around customers. As this does help employees to not smoke (take smoke breaks), about 9 out of 10 Managers (Co., Dept., Store-wide) have agreed to allow employees to use the smokeless tobacco. Many employees have used them, and even ducked around corners to use them, while on the clock and visible to a manager. It is best to check with your store manager first. However, the Kroger company, nor coporate, have issued any sort of official rules reguarding smokeless tobacco.
The first time I saw our current store manager was when he made a brief appearance in my Produce department. He swung through the back room door, didn't say a word to those of us assembled in the room, jauntily strolled over to the nearest trash can, and let loose with a stream of foul, nasty, indescribably fuking GROSS tobacco laden saliva driven juice RIGHT into the waste can...which, interestingly enough, stands RIGHT BELOW one of our many State Dept. Cleanliness guideline charts.
I pretty much summed up who and what he was about right then n there~
on a similar note, we had a manager recently that wouldn't let us chew gum...but she never said anything to those people chewing tobacco, now does that make any sense at all?
