I work closing shift all the time and last week was no exception. July 4th was no exception to that either.... since was on register most of the day, thanks to quevision, and had no help for the last 2 hours of my shift (3:30-12am).... I spent an extra 1/2 hour clearing the lot of carts.
I was expecting to get 0.50 in overtime but low-and-behold i get 8.50 hours of holiday pay. For those that do not know holiday pay is, for me, normal pay.
I will, of course, be talking to my manager tomorrow when I go into work about it and i'll be damned if they cheat me out of $2! xD

At my store only employees who were hired before 1977 or became full time by 1983 get time and a half if they work a Sunday or a holiday. Everyone else is paid straight time. Full time employees however can only be scheduled 32 hours during a holiday week because they receive 8 hours holiday pay. Any work in excess of 32 hours is overtime. Part time employees who have a year or more service get holiday pay too but it's only 4 hours if you average less than 30 hours during the four previous weeks. It's 6 hours if you average over 30 hours during the four previous weeks. With all that being said, if you worked 8 1/2 hours on any given day you should have received 30 minutes of overtime, holiday or not.
