Management B.S.

At my store one of our long time employees just lost one of her siblings, this just after the death of her father a few months ago.  Anyway she didn't get funeral pay for her fathers death because of her being on vacation at the time.  My question is, shouldn't you still get funeral pay if your on vacation?

On another note, some of the ladies in the deli started to put together some things for the family and our dickheaded co-manager said he couldn't donate a gift card to help because it ain't for a non-profit group.  Thats all well and good but this bastard wouldn't even pull out a dollar out of his own wallet.  This s.ob. could more than afford it, but we got $65.00 just out of our deli/bakery, and the meat shop next door.  And most of those people are living paycheck to paycheck.

Just goes to show management could care less were just a number to them!

That just goes to show that employees will stick by their co-workers, through thick and thin, no matter what, because they're tight like family...maybe they'll even help out a manager on occasion by taking up a collection...but you gotta give to receive...

Funeral pay is provided so employees don't lose money for being off.  It is not treated as a vacation or personal day.  So you don't get extra pay if you happen to be on vacation at the time.    As far as providing food goes, that's up to the individual stores.  At my store, if an employee has a close family member (spouse, parent, or child) die they will provide things like deli trays, bread, chips, soft , etc. and expense it out.

there are always the uncaring, but they truly are a rare find. maybe you should just let it be. he doesn't deal well with emotions. his stepdad probably beat the **** out of him.

You might try talking to the head of your Cultural council about it instead of the store manager. Generally cultural council is in charge of doing something for people who have lost loved ones. This is actually a kroger mandated program that each store in our zone is required to have. Good chance it's available in your store too.

And on an unrelated note, is there any way to put someone on the forums on ignore?

I wish to Christ there was....

Once, there was this retarded kid who I made the mistake of being nice to. He followed me and stalked me around like I was a licorice stick. We'll call him Teddy. Teddy followed me and plagued me, and all the while as I watched the other kids teasing and tormenting and beating the sht out of him, I always seemed to come to his defense. Even tho I hated it, just as I came to hate Teddy.

Then, one night in Summer Camp, a bunch of kids ganged on him and did a 'blanket party'......only with bags of Walnuts instead of soap bars. I sometimes still hear his screams. I spent many years feeling guilty about not stopping that.

Now I'm hearing some of those retarded screams for attention here. And I feel the old knee-jerk reaction to help.....

But not now. Not here; we're all supposed to be adults. Even if our filtering systems sometimes include L & P reports, or others making fun of strong work ethics in others~

It's so sad that some managers don't care about the emloyees. Just there to make money.
