It seems that since the start of the year, our contract is up in October, my store has been spending money on a stupid stuff. Seems they don't want to have any money when we demand a raise.
Anyway weve had a new register installed, que-vision, sent people for stupid meeting regarding key retailing that they already knew getting our 2 year old fuel center painted, etc. But today two things accured that made it seem obvious that this is what they are doing.
They printed up cards on which they wrote our EUID's so we would know them. Hell most of us have had the same one for years, we know them. But what takes the cake was we finally got doors installed on the cooler underneath our sandwich counter. The old ones were cheap wood and a metal frame, but the new ones are all metal and cost the store, get this $1,300.00. WTF! The maintenence guy who installed them said his brother who is a fabricator could have made the same thing for less than $300.00. Seems that Kroger is wanting to spend until they have non for those of us who actually do the work!

Corporations can write off a huge percentage of repairs, maintenance and improvements, while they cannot do so with pay roll. Sucks, but it's the truth~
The Meeting stuff is pretty much all stores... Printing up the cards so people know their numbers isn't much of a cost. And the doors? Contracts prevent Kroger from shopping around. The maintenance guys only service certain equipment.. So.. Parts have to come from authorized sources.
I'll be honest.. I wish Kroger would spend more money on its stores. Our deli needs a new walkin freezer, or at least an overhaul. The door ices shut due to a faulty seal, and you have to use a crowbar to open it. Ice is forming in the walls around the freezer contributing to the problem with the door, as well as causing the metal panels on the freezer roof to warp and expose the insulation. One of the fans inside doesn't rotate. Water drips all over our product and freezes on it.... I could keep going.. But.. Sigh.
There is a lot of improvement our store needs, and as much as I hate my manager, this is the ONLY thing he is doing right. I don't want to work somewhere that is falling apart and looks like ****.
FedUp, I feel the same way about my store. It's like the oldest store ever. And things are falling apart left and right and the buildng just looks like a crappy building.
my store spent money on tvs and satellite, new tables and chairs all hard wood and a leather couch and a foosball table, for a breakroom. dumb. while at my store our parking lot is in really really bad shape there have been repairs but they are so poorly done. we truly need our parking lot repaved its a 25 year old store. the parking lot is ****.
