I just finished going through the program to become a bakery manager. I'm waiting to hear which store I am going to be sent to. However, I do have a question pertaining to my pay rate. The one thing I guess I never thought to ask was: how many hours need to be logged before a pay increase happens, or is the hourly rate I am making now it forever? I'm in Cincinnati, zone d if anyone can help me. Thanks.
It should be listed in the payscale section of your contract book. Not all divisions have separate bakery and deli department heads though. So I would make sure that it is an actual department head position with extra pay and not just a way for them to put all the responsibility on one person.
in my division - the bakery lead (head bakery manager) is right under the deli manager. this position is equal to the deli back up (which is what I am for the moment). the pay rate is $14.80/hr or $15.10/hr for larger volumn stores.
all this is outlined in your union contract book. you are in the union right?

In my division, your job title is imaginary and you get no special pay from it. The Deli Manager runs both deli and bakery.
If you are a manager, then there is no climbing the pay ladder. You go in at manager pay and get 40 hours a week.
For some stores here that have a huge customer base, they allow two deli managers, with one assigned to bakery.. I tried that.. No bueno. The deli side manager was the senior manager and she had all sorts of issues and didn't even let me TRY to do my job. I was sabotaged and everyone knew she was doing it and that she didn't want me there. I was miserable. I left that store and the next time I was offered a management position, I turned it down. It is way too much politics and stress for not enough money.
