i worked for kroger for 12 years. there were ups and downs. sadly, the downs, outweighed the ups in the end.
when i started kroger it was a genuinly fun place to work. sure, it wasn't perfect, but it was more possitive then negative. management at least tried to be fair, coperate saied out of your way, if things ran well. hard work was noticed
then, things began changing. lot of old timers, both crew and management saw the coming storm , and left. the foolish, like me, tried to ride out the storm, not knowing as far as kroger had become concerned, we were no longer sailors on their ship, we were weight to be trhown overboard when needed. i watched good, honest people lose their jobs over petty nonsense, or get run out by mistreatment.
management no longer cared about anything but their bonus. coperate ran everything from their ivory towers, having no clue what they were doing. crew dwindled, jobs were cut, strain grew, and all the while, we were fed a never ending stream of propagande, that all the problems were somehow our fault, and if we would just follow their new plan, all would be perfect. never mind the plans diddn';t work. that was a bad attitude.
finally, i got the ax, over stupidity. two write ups were bogus bull, the third was a simple mistake. the union strung me along, faking a fight they never intended to win.
it took 14 months to find a job in this wrecked echonomy. kroger had blocked my unemployment all th while.
looking back, what bothers me the most, is all the blood sweat and tears, the extra effort, the coming in on days off, pulling extra shifts, working extra work to cover lack of people, saying onboard, even thou all signs said bail.all of it ment nothing.
I was now expendable. they had someone half trained to take my place, and a opening to suspend me, and jumped on it. no thanks for the years, no consideration for my previous flawless 11 years. see ya, . It hurt.
my replacement lasted two weeks, before he quit, the store itself suffers from poor staffing. i guess it should make me feel better i still am missed by shoppers and coworkers. it doesn't all those years, a quarter of my life. flushed.
always remember, they keep a record of everything you ever do wrong, in writing. don't belive it goes out after a year, it never leaves your folder.
yet, no record is kept of all you do above and beyond. it's forgotten the next day. you may get a 'you did good 'card to buy you off. i'd rather it get put in my file, then a dollar card.
I have worked many jobs. some good, some bad. some better some even worse. none thou has left me with the depressing feeling, it was all for nothing.

This is why if I am written up, I go upstairs the day it is slated to come out and ask for it to be pulled, even if its a SIR.
I do have a story on this though. Our store started signing out the trash logs a couple of years ago. Instead of taking it serious, I signed out with any name that popped into my head. "Seymour Asse", "Buck Naked" "Drew P Weiner" (now you know where the name comes from). One woman who works on the front end is a religious nut and complained to the head cashier who went to management. I was written up for it and the sign out sheet stayed in my file as well.
I asked a couple of weeks later for the writeup to be pulled. The manager blew up and said he never does anything with the writeups and said he was going to write me up later for something I wasn't even trained on how to do in the meat shop (I found out later the union had a grievance ready to go and thats why I was never written up). He pulled them out of my file and ripped them up.
A couple weeks ago, I added a resume to my file because I am looking into another job within the company. The co-manager was putting it into my file when I noticed the signout sheet still in my file. I asked if I could see my file and he agreed. When I saw the signout sheet, I explained to him what it was and that it was from two years ago and ripped it up.
I kinda regret ripping it up, for no other reason than I was written up for something that even though it was offensive, Kroger is telling people they have to sign out to take out trash. The only thing you are obligated to sign for is your pay stub and nothing else.
