i started at kroger last night on third shift and i have to work again tonight. last night was rough. i am used to stocking as i did at my last job but it is much different at kroger. i am having to practically work by myself tonight in frozen because the lead is off tonight. still really have no idea what i am doing
Kroger is different from other retailers, but over night stocking is pretty much the same beast where ever you work. Organize, prioritize, learn to time yourself accordingly, and just do the best you can.
haha thanks. i am still nervous that its my second night and i already have to work alone. i figured they would train with me a couple days before telling me to do it but i guess not
Welcome to the new face of retail.....They probably assumed you'd just fly on your own with your previous stocking experience. Don't sweat it, you'll do fine~
Yeah, I didn't get enough training in before they just pushed me out on my own either.... I had to make a small fuss over it to get them to show me how to do it right.
I worked a week on nightstock and it takes a little getting use to. Make sure to check the barcodes last 4 numbers and the numbers on the tags of the shelf. Hope that your file manager actually does their job correctly.
Just do your best If they don't like it then tell them to show you how to do it correctly. Good luck, friend!

I don't work 3rd shift, and I sure wouldn't want to at my store. Our 3rd shift crew enjoys a well-deserved reputation for taking frequent & multiple breaks and, wanna talk about prioritzing & timing?....these guys have down to a science. They always seem to get just enough work done to satisfy the store managers, leaving their half-worked pallets & carts anywhere it is convenient for them in the back room areas. Everything must be correct order for the 3rd shift if one of their trucks is expected during their shift...if not they whine to management....and management bitches to everyone else. And God help us if the perishables truck arrives too early in the morning & the 3rd shift has to unload it....you'd think those guys were being asked to cut off one of their balls!! We essentially have to unload and reload all the coolers and rearrange all the pallets because the 3rd shift purposely screws it up (and they all know better since most of them have worked the other depts, and most of them are long time employees), and anyway what do they care since it wasn't their truck and they will be clocking out shortly hours before either the store mgr. or co-mgr. decide to show up. Guess I've too much integrity to lower myself to work 3rd shift...but, after reading all these posts for the last few months I guess I've already compromised my integrity by working at Kroger in the first place. Maybe I should go back to the dark side at WalMart!! Or would that be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire????
I don't know how long it's been since you worked at Wal-Mart, but I seriously wouldn't recommend returning, unless you can hire on salaried. Hourly jobs there are a joke: damn near no hours, scheduled all over the map so you can't take an out side job, and I promise you: you will NEVER get benefits.
The greedy f**ks are even trying to do away with the employee discount card.....guess that 10 % off of a pack of Juicy Fruit gum is just TOO MUCH TO BEAR....
OP here. so we apparently only get one 30 minute break a night unless they are holding it from me that we get other smaller breaks. as for the 10% discount card they told me about it but i still havent got mine yet. so far 3rd shift sucks big time. tonight will be my 4th night working and the guy training mean started his vacation yesterday so once again i am stuck by myself not really knowing what to do. i am just gonna do what i know how to do so far ( which isnt much) and if i happen to mess something up they will get an earful from me. i cant be productive employee unless i fully know what i am suppose to be doing

In most contracts it's break(15 min), lunch(30min), break(15min) ask your union rep. Call if you need to.
You should have been given a kroger plus card when you started and filled out the paper that went with it.... it takes a few weeks for the paperwork to go through so until then you have to deal with only the normal shoppers discount.
