Kroger and Community Charity Events

My local stores are co-opting a food and community volunteer based clothing drive. Very noble........but what bothers me is that, two of the associates I spoke to claimed their hours were "mysteriously cut" by five hours/week for the next two weeks, and that this is supposedly going to be on a staff rotational basis for the next several weeks. The opinion is that it's supposed to off-set the co-opting stores' expenses.

Anyone else out there experiencing anything like this?

I asked my friend, the Kroger salaried guy about this, but he was oddly tight-lipped on the subject. That tells me

Naw; was just saying that there does seem to be a link between charity event costs and temporarilly reduced hours.
