I know it might be silly but how does one page/receive a page in the store? I never actually got trained i was just thrown into the mix at day one so im still learning my way around. I assume the phones pretty much work the same at every store?

It depends upon what type of phone system your store has, but usually there's a button on the phone that says, "Page."  Each phone will also have a unique extension number.  So if you're using phone 1234 and you want page someone to call you back on 1234 you simply pick up the phone, press page and say, "______ dial extension 1234" and then hang up.  If you don't hang up the person trying to call you will get a busy signal.  When the phone rings, pick it up.

For actual phone calls that you have to put on hold for someone you'll have to just ask someone at your store.  With our newest phone system we can either put a call on hold on just that one phone, or we can "park" the call and the call will be given a three digit number whereby anyone can answer the call on another phone just by dialing that three digit number, or we can transfer the call directly to another department.

for my store you pick up the phone and dial 3-2-1 there will be a beep and after the beep ends you can begin to speak " ______ you have a phone call on line 1/2" To answer on line 1 or 2 you dial 5301/5302 respectively.

at my store, first you PARK the call. there is a button that says PARK on it. The call then goes into CALLER ORBIT and is assigned a number (usually 101). you then push the PAGE button and say your page. please push down on the thingie before putting the phone back into the cradle so it won't make that horrible noise and don't blow into the receiver first to check if your page is going on - also annoying.....

i work 3rd shift. People would rather yell across the store for you than page you.

By reading all these posts here, it seems that all phones are not the same from store to store. The best person to ask about this is your department supervisor or one of your co-workers. They should be happy to help you, unless they have some serious social issues. In that case, the problem is with them and not you.

Agreed!   I've heard from several employees at the Scottsdale, AZ store and their management is awful.  There is absolutely no inhouse training there and the managers are awful, especially in the food areas.   I know one new employee who was working really hard in the deli area and they just demoted her (or rumor has it.)   She was one of the very few that received customer compliments on her cooking.
