In a perfect world. I want the EBT card to be like "the lottery" randomly when you use the card you have a percent of a chance to drop dead from a heart attack.
All jokes aside, you would think that someone would keep track of what unwise EBT customers spend. I know it will never happen. People who buy steak, soda, shrimp, chips, cookies, frozen meals etc waste their resources during the first of the month as opposed to budgeting it for 3-4 weeks. In a perfect world limits would be put on what EBT customers can and cant buy. I remember one instance where a man wanted to buy deli fried chicken witha an ebt card and couldnt and he raised hell.
I can't sat to much bad about EBT cards, because they are all that kept my familey from literally starving the 13 months we were both out of work.i do agree, there should be limits to what you can get thou.
but we got so bad, about july, we even had out power turned off.

Normally, I'd call you a racist and some fairly creative abusive language, but I despair that you are basically correct.
It would probably be better if food stamps were extremely restrictive like WIC and only allowed for bland, boring and reasonably healthy food that no one really wants.
But then I'd have to try to ring them up. Considering how WIC customers are entirely unable to select the correct WIC items, it would be an absolute disaster.
Menthol cigarettes, racism and fairly creative abusive language aside, this issue can be summed up in one neat sentence:
IF YOU CAN'T FEED THEM, DON'T BREED THEM.
The only ones able to eat are the ones that do. If america's "working class" didn't have children we would be in the same boat as japan in terms of birthrate.

I think the solution would be that instead of having an EBT card that can be redeemed at any grocery store, have a place (store/warehouse) that only supplies the basics (milk, bread, eggs, cereal, etc.) and make it so the card can only be redeemed there. This would eliminate the problem with people wasting their credit on "luxury" items and not having enough for the essentials. And because the card can only be redeemed at a place that sells the essentials, there is no hassle about getting the wrong items... you either have the credit, or you don't.
I agree with Cathy's post it has very good points. However I really don't think Kroger cares too much if you think about it. As long as those EBT customers come to Kroger to spend their monthly allowances, who cares if they buy $6 boxes of cereal, steaks, junk food etc. It's about $$$ in Krogers pocket.

That sounds horribly unrealistic and very much so "big-government." And this is coming from a pretty liberal guy. They just need to regulate what people can buy.
