It seems Kroger wishes to go for the Part Time help that will eventually be the destruction of the company. They see indivduals like me not as a productive worker, but rather a money figure and how it can be replaced. In this thread we will discuss the advantages and disadvantage of both statuses.
Full Time employees are great people as Kroger should see it. These indivduals are typically "adults" and are there to get the job done. They don't just hand out Full Time status just to anybody. These indivduals have worked many of years and knows what needs to be done. While we do get great benefits that is only of a fraction. We are more likely to show up than our part time counterparts. It will get worse as gas prices go up to see part time help call in.
I can tell you upper management is very naive. I remember Michael Marx told me "young people want to learn how to do their job.". I thought to myself... yeah, this guy is so out of touch with today's youth. Maybe 1 out 10 teenagers or young adults actually want to give a ****.

you sound like a bitter adult part timer.. just sayin.. i got full time status at last year. i was 20. our younger age groups work our asses off while the old take there time and talk all day..
the main problem is that many people (both young and old) who work at kroger view it as "something to get by until a better job comes along". with that attitude comes a comparable work ethic and they'll likely never move up to FT status or get past minimum wage at kroger.
with FT status comes the health benefits which is the major associated cost, not the bump in wages. they want to know 1) that you are worth spending that much money on, and 2) that you aren't just going to skip out on the company if some other job does pop up
i know that this is the "kroger sucks" forum but the truth is that there is a lot to be said for a steady 40 hour week job with health insurance, especially now. don't get me wrong, kroger isn't perfefct, but i see a lot of people who seem to think that working at a grocery store is a crap job that's beneath them. these people just fart around all day and do the bare minimum to keep managers from bitching at them and this isn't how you're going to get anywhere.

Actually, I'm quite the oppose. I'm Full Time 40 hours and use to work OT whenever they needed me. I would put off my plans to work whatever hours they needed. I was 20 like you many years ago and got full time within a few months. Its just my observation from all the part timers i've seen in the meat market.

Have had a few part timers that wanted more hours but never got them.
One reason is they just did not want to do the work.
Another is they would place restrictions on the hours they can work
One more is that if I found them hours, at another store , they did not want to drive there or work.
