Not really. Basically getting ****ed out of my job right now. There are 3 stores in town, and another in the next town over, about 45 minutes away. One of the stores in town is closing because it sucks, it's always in the bottom 5 in the division. They are letting the people at the store that's closing take the positions of people at the other local stores if they have seniority. So what does that mean? I've been with kroger for almost 4 years now. I've been up front, meat department, and now I manage the dairy department, but all that means **** all to kroger. They bumped me from my job, out of my store, and offered me a part time, minimum wage job doing "something" in grocery at the store that is 45 minutes away. The fact that they can't even tell me what I'd be doing in grocery obviously means they don't even have a position over there and are just going to squeeze me in wherever getting hardly any hours. It's a ****ing joke and downright insulting. Lot's of other good employees are getting screwed in this too. But, I'm finally free I guess. I'm taking 2 weeks vacation to find a new job and can't wait to walk out of their for the last time.
Have any of ya'll experienced this kind of ****?
PS I'm not in the union and I don't plan on fighting this.

The union would have been unable to do anything to help him anyway. They offered him another job and he refused it. Nothing they would have done. Kroger didn't have to offer him another job, but they did.

In a case like this, it wouldn't matter if (S)he were in the union. With a union, the only thing that matters is seniority. It doesn't matter if you're incompetent or not or if someone with less seniority can do the job better than you can. All that matters is how long you've been there. If it were up to me, I'd keep the best people, regardless of seniority.
The whole reason I'm getting screwed is BECAUSE of the union and several union members are in the same boat, including a guy who's a grocery manager and former dairy manager for near 20 years (he was offered an overnight stocker position). They make these contracts regardless if you're paying dues or not.
this will be the best thing ever happened to u(career wise) now go look for a real job not one some part-time snot nosed punk could do at min wage. Here's the main thing to remember- if it's retail it sux, it's no future, and the company only wants short term part-timers. stocking yogurt, butter, and chesse along with filling the milk and eggs is not a career nor a skill. i'd have more respect for u if u picked up my garbage once a week- that'd mean u passed a skilled exam and driving test to get a CDL and u were capable of operating power equipment and driving a large truck. Just be glad it happened now and not 25 years from now when ur too old to go learn a real skill.

OK I was just wondering about this. I never heard of a Kroger just closing for no reason. I think I found the store. I did see 3 in Columbia. One new and the other 2 are old one was an old white Kroger building. Man the old white building is so 1980's. I bet that one is the one closing? Just hang in there just see what they offer. How far do you live from the 45 minute store? It may not be worth driving there.
