So my manager mentioned something about this new E-Scheduling we're switching over to. Basically a computer sorts our your work hours based on available department hours and your availability. I've been getting 32 hours per week for the past couple months as part time. I was wondering if this new skynet bullcrap is going to effect me?
Uh. We've been using a system called Sked to do that for several years already...
This is something different from what has been used the past several years. Wait a few more weeks it will start could even be later this year. My boss is the one or one of the ones who is going to go train the stores on this.
even back when i was with kroger, they were always going on about a 'new scedualling program" where"insert bad things" was going to happen.
it,s nothing to be worried about
a computer decides how many people needed per shift, but management still determin who gets those hours, long as you ain't on someone's bad side, you'll be OK
My grocery manager (the person who decided my schedule on a week to week basis for 2 years) says she won't have any control over who gets what hours. Considering she gives us about 20 people's schedules on a required to work basis this worries me. I work on the night grocery crew but i take hours from the front end baggers, some weird store crap. Basically i don't want to end up with 12 hours a week for a night shift that confuses a computer.
We did a WBL on the new system, but I didn't make note of how to access it outside of work. My manager said you can. Does anyone know the URL? Couldn't find anything on ExpressHR or company website about it.
It would be your EUID and password used for other things in the store. If you don't know your password, go to passport on a store computer and set one up.

Basically, the goal is to get every part time employee down to 28 per week max. I am in the same boat as you. I have been averaging 40hrs during a 6 day week for the last year. We are supposed to be scheduled 28hrs by October in my business unit. I do not see it happenning unless they hire 4 more people on nights. No one wants to work nights except me of course.. We have not gone to the new auto scheduling yet.
One description I have heard: The computer prints out blocks of hours and the manager fills them in. It should work as well as forecasting does!
for those that have been working more than 28 hours even if you are part time you can file in most states for particial unemployement for example a part timer that has been working for over 28 weeks at 36 to 40 hours would be able to claim unemployement if they are scheduled 28 or under hours
it is the most silly thing some of us were getting good hrs. then they come along and to me make a goof on hours I went from thirty some hours down to twenty two and on top of that the younger hires get more hours scheduled then you when some of us has been with kroger's8 to 15 years this really "SUCKS" all I am saying.
Senior people should be able to "relieve" some of the newer workers of their hours. What about seniority? I've been with the company 16 years and there ain't no way a new guy will get more hours than me.

You may be able to get somewhere with that, but most of my workers have had little success with that, since all but like 4 of my 70+ workers have to roll the entire week, not just individual days. Plus, often someone with less seniority who got more hours will be scheduled to do something the more senior person can't do, or at times they can't work, which means they can't roll for hours.
If the senior person has restrictions and the lower person has open availability, that's their fault for being restricted. That's what I've always heard before, that if you are restricted you forfeit seniority. If thats wrong let me know.

It's not "wrong" but the problem is that since we've had much greater personal control over the schedule as writers in the past, people have been spoiled by us working around their availabilities and still getting them hours. They've come to think that is a right and not just a privilege they've been enjoying.
We counsel some to open their availabilities as wide as possible, but most of our HS age kids already have, but they're still restricted to like 4p-10p 5 days per week by law.
I think the system takes the People out of Great People. As part time I have had 20 hrs per week for the last eight years. Now I find myself cut to 17 hrs. I normaly start a 6:00 but the computer randomly will shedule me in at 5:45 for no apparent reason. I have a second job because I need the money but if I can't live on what I earn then what is the point? I would qualify for all sorts of aid if I droppedd the second job. The new system stinks to high heavern. It simplly can't adjust to the human factor. For example our fuel station does not have a restroom. It is hard on the individual to open and work the first four hours with no bathroom break. Often people call in and if the front end is thin and there is not one trained for fuel your stuck.
