In our news letter today, they were complaining about employees taking a sample from the sample stands we put out. Not even employees taking multiple samples, just one. It says "the samples are for the customers, NOT the employees and taking one could be considered grazing." I don't see what the big fuss is, on normal days over half the sample is left by the time we have to throw it out.
And of course if a customer wants to come up and eat the entire thing by themself, they can and we aren't allowed to say anything to them.
If the samples are from your department, take one before they're put out for the customers. If they're not, wait until your shift is over. At that point you're a customer, not a worker.
"I spend money here, too. I'm not just an employee I'm also a customer and I might want to buy that. How would I know unless I try it?"
Kroger tends to view employees as nothing more than thieves-in-rank and will try to squash you as a person at every turn. Just don't eat the whole thing. Be within reason and do it on break.

Yeah, but they're complaining about people taking one sample and they specifically mentioned employees taking a sample while they're heading out on break. Not people eating all the samples while they're working...I could understand if they were complaining about employees who were eating a ton or who were eating on the job.

I don't know, it just seems petty to me.
It is petty and like I said Kroger would rather demonize their own employees than stop shoplifters.<sarcasm> Corporate KNOWS that Shoplifting, customer destruction of product("accidents"), warehouse/truck damage, and waste are second rate problems when it comes to an employee taking a sample when on break. God knows that employees are -THE- MAJOR source of shrink and need to be stopped. </sarcasm> /rolleyes

Im sorry, but when I am break its more of a customer part than an employee part. I have every right just like any other customer to try out samples. I spend around $1000 / month in groceries at Kroger and would be more than happy to find another retailer who would like $1,000 / month in revenue.

Maybe everyone should go to one of those ritzier, independent grocery stores, where there's no problem with samples being passed out all the time. Heck...walk into a Costco, and there's someone doing a demo of a new product around every corner!!! You can't escape someone saying, "Would you like to try some of our new (you fill in the blank)?"
Bring a change of clothes and wait until you get off your shift. Then when you're off, change your clothes (so no one can mistake you for an employee) and go eat all the sample. You're a customer, they can't stop you
